Hi there...I hope this article helps your research: http://www.messybeast.com/whitecat.htm (see section titled "WHITE CATS AND DEAFNESS")
It's common for white cats with blue eyes to be deaf rather than blind.
Here's another article by Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine about white cats and blindness: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/askDr/deaf.htm
excerpt from the article:
"Researchers found that only 17 to 22 percent of white cats with non-blue eyes are born deaf. The percentage rises to 40 percent if the cat has one blue eye, while upwards of 65 to 85 percent of all-white cats with both eyes blue are deaf. Some of these cats are deaf in only one ear. Interestingly, if a white cat with one blue eye is deaf in only one ear, that ear will invariably be on the same side of the head as the blue eye."

Deafness as well as white fur (lack of melanin) and blue eyes are recessive genes. Typically a recessive, harmful gene will be masked by a dominant, non harmful, gene. Because all animals get half of their genes from mom and half from dad both must pass along the recessive traits to the offspring for these different traits to occur. some are harmless such as having white fur or blue eyes. However, having them both is a signal that the animal is likely to have other traits that are only exposed when recessive genes are passed, such as deafness. Though having a white cat with blue eyes does not mean he will be deaf or blind or have some other genetic health problem, it is more likely to be seen in those with other recessive qualities.

I've heard statistics from AVMA that 40% of white cats with blue eyes were deaf. The deafness is linked to the color gene. Doing rescue, I've seen several deaf white cats, and some hearing ones. Deaf ones can be hard to place bc they often don't get along with other cats. They don't know when they are playing too rough bc they don't hear the other one growling or hissing.

Yeah its not blindness that white cats with blue eyes suffer with its deafness. Its because of genetics etc.

Who told you to research blind cats, the right answer is deaf cats. If that is research, challange that question.

the reason is because most cats that are white with blue eyes are sort of albino compared to other cats with brown eyes. I also think it has something to do with blue eyes being not as common as brown eyes, so cats with blue eyes a different in a unique kind of way. I hope this makes sense to you, and good luck.

Blind? I always heard it was a factor for deafness, not anything with the sight.
