Because we are being Scriptural, and using the same words as the Archangel Gabriel...

The account of the angel Gabriel announcing to Mary that she is to be the mother of our Savior is familiar to all Christians. We find here the first elements of the Ave Maria. The angel’s words are "Hail, O favored one," (Luke 1:28 RSV), or as Jerome translated it in his 4th century Latin edition, "full of grace."

We say the prayer "Hail Mary" to ask her to pray for us like we ask anyone else, we get the verses from the Book of Luke. But we have never said in church "Hail Mary" or anything like that. We worship Jesus and we believe in the Trinity. We do say Hail Jesus and we do say "Jesus is king" and "he has risen". After all, he is the savior and Messiah.

Hail Mary is called the Angelic Salutation. It begins with the salutation addressed by the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary.

Because that particular prayer is to ask Mary as the Mother of Jesus to pray to her son for you.

If you said Hail Jesus that would defeat the prayer.

Tucsorn you are so wrong... you better ask God 4giveness for saying that mary is co-equal with Him... THE NERVE!

To answer the question.. the catholics pray to mary instead of Jesus because they simply do not have enough faith in their own prayer to God being answered through His Son Jesus Christ.

If you read the words of the prayer slowly, it is a recounting of what happened in the New Testament..

Not co-equal with God or Jesus..

the hail mary is a prayer:
"hail mary full of grace, the lord is with you.
blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, jesus.
holy mary mother of god pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
amen"
i don't see why non catholic christians have a problem with it. it just states that mary was holy to be blessed with having jesus, and asks her to pray for them. do you think people in heaven are banned from praying?

Because we are asking Mary to pray for us. Catholics do not worship Mary, nor is she divine. We simply believe that she is in heaven and can pray for us on earth. If you look at the Hail Mary, you'll see that half of it is from the Bible. Catholics only worship God. To do so otherwise is heresy and has been condemned by the Church.

because of the fact we've faith in following the Bible. The Bible says that all and sundry generations will call her "Blessed," and we are basically obeying what Scripture says. We now and back ask your self why Protestants who declare to have faith in "Sola Scriptura" conveniently overlook approximately that distinctive verse. And the Rosary is a prayer gadget that facilitates us to: intercede for others, ask Mary to desire for them and us, and to meditate on events interior the lives of Jesus and His mom. some distance from being "pagan and idolatrous," praying the Rosary brings us nearer to Christ. that's a stunning thank you to obey the Bible by potential of meditating on the Scriptures from which each and all of the Mysteries is taken and by potential of being in prayer. that is relatively a shame that such lots of non-Catholics are Maryphobic. Her intercession is extremely effectual with God the daddy, and all she desires to do is see people draw ever nearer to Jesus. you're all lacking the possibility to get to understand a staggering woman who loves the individuals her Son offered together with his very own existence and blood.

Mary is an intermediary between humans and God. We ask her to pray for us, in the way you might ask a friend of yours to pray for your mother who is sick.

We say "Hail Mary" because we believe Mary is the crowned Queen of Heaven, a title given to her by God, and so she deserves respect as God's chosen one.

To better answer your question, a friend of mine says this about Mary- "Personally, I worship Mary because I think she's a goddess and for no other reason."
