Yes, you can get in trouble for it.

Instead order a sign like one of these: http://petoccasion.com/dogs2.htm

If that doesn't stop it, then find out what your laws are. If there isn't one directly relating to dog poop, see if you can work it in under littering or defacing property or trespassing.

You can also start a community poop watch with other home owners and the police. Call and speak with your mayor or police chief and see if they will work on a program with you. It often times consists of marking down the information of when an owner allows a mess to be left (time, name, location, dog description, address of offender, etc) and the police department will then mail them a warning letter.

You can even do this on your own via anonymous letter. Cite the law and punishment and let them know that next time the community will report them.

I hope that one of these solutions will help you out!

Added: Are the dogs wandering? If they are, catch them and give them to a no-kill rescue (not a shelter) group. They'll get better homes that way, and your problem will be gone.

Instead of complaining about it carry a baggie with you and when you see it happening run out pick up the load and throw it at whoever left it as they walk away yelling loudly " HEY YOU FORGOT THIS!"

You could go to the local bait shop and see if you can find skunk scent and dump it out front. Then people may go in the other direction but you'll have to tolerate the smell yourself and if you get any on you or your clothes it'll have to wear off.

Your sign should say MY LAWN IS NOT A DOGGIE TOILET
Violators will be shot on sight.
Also put up NO Trespassing signs.

And since you know where the people live who are allowing their dogs to go without cleaning it up I suggest you call the police and ask they go speak with these people before you do anything extreme.

When my dad noticed that the person behind us was letting their dog go to the bathroom in our yard he talked to the guy and asked him to stop. When the guy kept "accidentally" letting his dog into our yard when he came out long enough to ignore his dog using the bathroom in our yard, my dad got mad. One day my dad went out on the deck and kind of, well let's just say because of their "little talk" the guy was building a fence across the back of his yard the next day. You can try this or do what my grandpa did with his new piece of property. He put up a sign that said TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT SURVIVERS WILL BE PROSECUTED. He put it up for fun. Or you could just pick it up, put it in a paper bag, ring the door bell and leave it at their doorway every time. You might get in trouble for anything more violent than those choices.

My young children were treading in fresh dog poop and walking it into the house. One day I'd had it, they were on the couch and now I had dog poop not only on the rug but on the couch - disgusting. The offender was a neighbor with a G.S. I literally chased her down on the street, confronted her, told her what a disgusting mess I had in my house daily and to pick up her dog's poop. She was very apologetic, came back 10 minutes later with a pooper scooper and I never had her dog's messes on my front lawn again. My point is, is it possible that these clods are oblivious to the fact that you are angry about their dog's messes? After my run-in with this woman I'm convinced that she wasn't aware that having her dog poop on my lawn would make me furious. Talk to them, tell them how you hate having their dogs poop on your lawn. Good luck.

I know that in my area people are fined for not cleaning up after their dogs (even in their own yard). My neighbor has a few signs near the sidewalk of her yard that says "do not allow your dog to use my yard" Most people do not let their dogs do their thing in her yard.

They can get in trouble by law, depending on where you live. I know that in New York it is a health code violation and is punishable by a 200 dollar or so fine if you are caught. I would assume though, that it depends on where you live.

And I feel your pain!!! I've been thinking of putting up a sign in my yard as well. Its sad though that it has come to this!

With a good rain the poo 'melts'. You can put a sign up saying no pooping in my yard but I wouldn't threaten the neighbors with throwing it back at them.

Post your sign. If it doesn't work, start videoing the dogs being allowed to mess in your yard and turn it over to the police. It is illegal for them to allow their dogs to soil your yard just aobut everywhere I've ever lived.

Put up some sort of fence. It doesn't have to be much, but something that they can't step over is best. A picket fence would work and not look out of place. But putting up anything would help. Signs help too.

You should report the owners and let your local vet/animal shelter pick them up. Then theyll have a caring home (one that dont let thier dogs wander off) actually both off you can get in trouble. You for vandalising property and them for tresspassing (yea dogs count too) so let them get thierselves in trouble
