Hi Jackie,
(that is very nice)

Your local public library always needs volunteers for their literacy programs. You can work with children or adults, in helping them to improve their reading skills.
Best of all..."no heavy lifting!"
Good luck.

GB u always.

My best recommendation would be to check with your school, to see if they have any community service clubs.

I know that the Kiwanis Club and the Lions' Club both operate on-campus clubs for high school students that allow the students to interface with others who have similar interests, as well as the adults who want to help the teens become more involved in their community. Most of the time, these clubs offer the same opportunities for volunteering that any adult would have, so you'd be exposed to all kinds of different things.

Look for Key Club (associated with Kiwanis) or Leo Club (associated with Lions).

how old are you?
16 or up: work at a youth center; a crisis network; a school; a daycare
15 and younger: volunteer to help other adults deliver food to the needy with a food bank or with meals on wheels; work in a church as a helper with the kids.

VolunteerMatch (http://www.volunteermatch.org), Idealist (http://www.idealist.org) and CraigsList (http://www.craigslist.com) all list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations. These are great places to look for volunteering opportunities. Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site (http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/).
