Okay, I'll try. The worship of Mary was started by the Catholic church in the 1500's. It was unknown by the early church. There is never a proper time to worship/talk to her. She is not God and there is nothing in the bible where it says that we should worship anyone other than God and even talking to the dead saints is not mentioned. Some popes are extremely Mary devoted and even call her a co-mediator which means that she is involved in a persons salvation the same as Jesus but this is not scriptural at all and can not be backed up by any manuscripts. I think if you could talk to Mary, she would say, forget about me and put your attention on the true Savior, Jesus.

Cults who disobey Christian (Catholic) teaching on who deserves worship.

Not sure when it started/

It's never proper to worship Mary, but any time is an appropriate time to talk to Mary, because she is alive in heaven with Jesus now and one of the "righteous" whose prayers "availeth much."

Not sure where the tradition started, but likely it was among renegade Catholics or Orthodox Christians, since non-Catholic/Orthodox Christians basically ignore Mary.

It probably started because people either were accustomed to goddess worship and transferred that to Mary or they got lazy with their Catholic/Orthodox religious education and stopped learning/practicing what is proper.

One is not supposed to worship Mary, so I have no idea how to do it.

Not sure how it started.

No one that I know of worships Mary. Catholic's recognize her as a Holy Mother who was sinless and chosen by God the Father to bear His only son Jesus. I mean c'mon, if she was so pure, why should we not recognize her greatness? Catholic's pray to Mary kinda like you would speak to your Grandmother who passed away and ask her for help and guidance. She was chosen to be the Mother of God. And if your Christian and believe in heaven, she is now with God and watches over us as well. She is all of our Mother because she gave birth to our Lord and Saviour.

first off veneration and adoration of the blessed mother of our lord and savior is not worship only the father son and holy Sprite is due all worship and glory we in the eastern orthodox church venerate and adore and ask her to intercede in our prays on our behalf to her son Jesus we believe that those in heaven have great power in their intercessions prays since they are in the present of god for all eternity it is just like if you ask a person in your church to pray for you well their is no difference from that god does not make any distinction from the saints here on earth or those in their glory in heaven god is the god of the living not the dead and those in heaven do not care any less of us the idea that this is some form of paganism and idolatry is charges made by
those in the protestant movement of this practice they are misinformed and ignorant of truth

You're not supposed to talk to the dead, whether they're in heaven or hell. If you don't think people are worshipping Mary, then you gotta admit they're talking to somebody that's dead...

King Saul lost his Kingdom on this issue, or did they throw that rule out with the old testament?

It actually began in Matriarchal societies.
Christianity tried to replace goddesses like
Isis with a male.
Women identify more with the mother as a
goddess.

Catholics "pray" to Mary...she's one step above the saints and one step below Jesus... they don't worship her as a God, but they pray to her because God chose her to be the biological mother of Jesus which makes her the Virgin Mary and she has some influence in Heaven and by praying to her; it is more likely that your prayers will get through from her to God.... This tradition start from the time Mary was believed to be ascended into Heaven with her body and soul intact... Again, "worship" is the wrong word.

Catholics worship Mary. She is also known as The Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico. It is said that she performed a miracle for an indigenous man called Juan Diego.

Guess that depends on whether you ask a Catholic, or whether you ask someone who hates Catholics. Should be pretty easy to tell the difference between the two based on your other answers thus far.

I wonder whether those self-professed anti-Catholics are really answering your question, or just using your question as an excuse to vent their distaste at any practice that they themselves disagree with...
