Just curious... I saw a commercial for an insurance company that covers pet bills in case of accident and injury, and I was wondering if they allow the pets to roam free in the car.... So 2 questions...

I saw the same commercial. I would expect the pet needs to be confined to a particular area of the car. We have a grate which keeps ours in the back. The pet owners that bother me are the ones with the loose dog(s) in the back of a pickup truck. They must not care about their dogs. It isn't safe or kind since the winter temperatures can get really cold when you take wind chill into consideration.

I keep mine restrained. It is better for your dog. In the event of an accident - an unrestrained dog can be ejected and killed just like an unrestrained human can. You can also buy seat belts for your pet.

Depends on how the dog has been trained... If you can get the dog to lie quietly in the back seat, then it should be OK without restraints, but my dogs aways want to sit in the front and help me drive... They are better off riding in their transport carrier.

It's not the law that they have to be, but it's a pretty good idea if you want to protect your pet.
