Get one of the envelopes and have a good look at it. It should say something on it about the purpose, some are strictly special offerings, some are tithes only, and some are multi-functional and have a place where you designate what it is that you're placing in the envelope (i.e. tithe, missions, benevolent, etc).
These envelopes can be used by anyone and as another post indicated they are often used for tax purposes to render a receipt for those individuals wanting to take it as a deduction.
Cash or check can be placed in the envelopes and to utilize it for tax purposes you must put your name on it. You can still use these anonymously if you don't want the tax deduction, just leave your name off. Do what you feel most comfortable with, God's not looking at the package, he's looking at your heart as you give. Blessings.

Not a dumb question. The envelope is for any amount. The reason for the information on the envelope is for your place of worship to record for tax purposes for your records and to specify where you want the money to go (tithe, building fund, special offering, etc). A list of your donations will be sent to you to use when doing your income tax statement.

I think in most denominations they "request" you "tithe" 10% of your earnings. I would think the other envelopes are for special things other than your normal tithes. Like if you want it to go to the missionaries or a special fund they might have at that time. Most folks just put their offering in the plates tho unless they want a receipt for tax purposes or some reason like that.

In our church the envelopes are usually for special offerings. You do not have to fill out the envelope unless you want a receipt for your taxes. It doesn't matter how much you give. In most churches the only one who sees how much you give is the treasurer.

Well if its a lot (I guess 15 dollars and up) you're supposed to use the envelopes, but if it's less then just put it in the basket.

You don't have to use it if you don't want to. Some people do, others don't.
You can put either checks or cash in those envelopes.

What annoys me is the asserting "Jesus is the clarification for the Season", completely ignoring the undeniable fact that there are numerous distinctive mid-wintry climate celebrations obtainable - no longer in basic terms Christmas. What additionally annoys me is the Christians who get all indignant when I want somebody "chuffed holidays" by way of fact they're subscribers to the aforementioned "Jesus is the clarification for the Season" mentality. And once you may clarify to me precisely what a embellished evergreen tree has to do with the beginning of Jesus in a manger in Bethlehem, then we are able to communicate why Christianity has taken Pagan symbols and integrated them into their own celebrations... and then attempt to declare that no one else could have a "holiday tree" by way of fact "that's a CHRISTMAS Tree"... And via the way, this is helpful to to be taught some thing approximately Halloween earlier you write it off as "evil". you additionally can desire to evaluate that this is precisely this form of condescending and fake impact that some Pagans locate offensive.

The envelope is for any money you want to go to a special project, so you can mention what work you want it to go to. YHVH tells about 3 tithes. One pays the Levites, one pays for our pilgrimages (which the catholic church outlawed) and the third goes for widows and orphans.
