the only problem with regions are PS2 games DVDs Blu Ray movies and power converters
if youre cool with having problems with them then your cool
also 40 gig deos NOT play PS2 games

the 80 gb playstation 3 has some backwards compatibility, much more memory for demos, videos, pictures, and music.
The 40 gb playstation 3 has absolutely no backwards compatibility.
BOTH consoles can play games from other regions. Blu-ray has not yet gotten region protected games.
