2 Corinthians 3: 17 is a most interesting verse in the bible.

And the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.

Share what the Lord is showing you about this verse brothers and sisters.
Who do we really have in us?
THe Lord or the SPirit.

I just want to throw in this verse too from John 14:23

This is in reference to the Lord speaking of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit being sent. Yet He says this in vs 23

" Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word and My Father will love him and WE will come to him and make an abode with him.

Man's spirit is God's habitation... His dwelling place has everything to do with man's spirit.
Eph 2:22 shows us this
In whom you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in spirit.

So tell me.. Who exactly is IN Us? We see that the Lord is the Spirit but also that the Father and the Son make an abode with us. the "WE " in that verse is striking.

I usually think of the Lord Jesus as being apart from the Holy Spirit, even though I know they are the same Spirit. "God is Spirit" (John 4:24)

The reason why I think so is because I often see Jesus manifested as God in human flesh during His ministry on earth.

But come to think of it, now that Jesus is in heaven in His resurrected, glorified body, He also dwells in the hearts of those who believe in Him, in the form of the Holy Spirit.

Weymouth New Testament translation of Ephesians 3:17 has a beautiful description of Jesus being at home in our hearts as we grasp the knowledge of how much He loves us:
"I pray that Christ may make His home in your hearts through your faith; so that having your roots deep and your foundations strong, in love..."

As for 2 Corinthians 3:17, I believe "the Spirit" referring to the grace of our Lord Jesus, who is also the Spirit of grace (Hebrews 10:29) Because Paul was comparing law and grace - the ministry of death and condemnation (which is the law or the ten commandments written and engraved on stones) and the ministry of the Spirit and righteousness (which is grace, for "grace reign through righteousness" Romans 5:21).

I believe the way we behold the glory of our Lord Jesus is to see Him in the Scriptures, both old and new testaments. For Jesus Himself did not allow the two disciples journeying to Emmaus to see Him physically, but instead taught them to see Him "in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself". (Luke 24:27) And their hearts were warmed. May our hearts be warmed too as we study the Scriptures to see the glory of Jesus - His beauty, His majesty and meekness, His grace and mercy. :)

It's good to know we are one spirit with the Lord Jesus. (1 Corinthians 6:17) So we know He will never leave us nor forsake us, and He has said surely He would be with us always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:20)

And just as Jesus is the vine and we are the branches, He causes us to bear fruit when we abide or remain in Him. For apart from Him, we can do nothing. We can be assured that when we do not rely on our own efforts and just rest in His grace, He will work in us both to will and to do for His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13) And we will bear the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faith and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). God bless you. :)

I think it's the whole Trinity argument in a different context. I'm curious what you think about the previous verses regarding "veiled faces."

2 Corinthians 3:12-18
12 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech-- 13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

The previous verses shows the contrast before Messiah's work on the cross, and after. Before, the Holy Spirit could not come inside because the sacrificial lamb could only "cover" sin until THE Lamb came to "take it away". Once sin was dealt with and removed, the Holy Spirit could then indwell the individual, saved believer.

This is illustrated clearly by Jesus in John 14:17
"...the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you."

For the first time in all eternity, the Spirit of the Holy God would not just be with a person, but would dwell inside a person. When this occurred with me in 1971, it was then I knew that God was not only real, but personal as well.

The holy spirit helps individuals to overcome difficult problems. In ancient times, God showed his people how they would be able to accomplish a very difficult task. Jehovah said that it would be done “not by a military force, nor by power, but by [his] spirit.” (Zechariah 4:6) If we submit to God and his spirit, we will also be helped to accomplish tasks and overcome obstacles that would otherwise be too great for us.—Matthew 6:33; Philippians 4:13.

Further, God’s spirit helps us to enjoy a freedom unknown to the world at large. The apostle Paul wrote: “Where the spirit of Jehovah is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17) Those who submit to God’s spirit enjoy freedom from false religion, superstition, fear of the future, and many other enslaving factors. God’s spirit truly is a power for good! It can even change people. The Bible touches on this when it says: “The fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22, 23) How different this world would be if everyone submitted to the influence of God’s spirit!

God=Lord=Spirit. All three equal. All three different manifestations of the one God, the Godhead, the Father/Son/Holy Spirit.

The Trinity is the toughest concept to grasp. That is because our minds can't comprehend it.

Edit: If an Alien came here and asked you to explain H2O. You would say, "Well, H2O can be frozen solid. We all that ICE. Also, H2O can be liquid and runny. We call that Water. And last, H2O can be in a gas form. We call that Steam." The alien will look at you like a nut job and say, "Which one is H2O?" You will reply, "All three are H2O, it just comes in different forms." The Alien will pack up and leave thinking earthlings to be crazy. THAT is like explaining the Trinity.

I believe sister, that God is the Spirit as is Jesus and Jesus is God. Can't dwell on it too long though, blows your mind. I believe though that when Jesus refers to the Father He is showing His own humanity. We serve a Mighty God!
Great question.
Together in Christ,

It's about Unity. Jesus was talking about the same thing..." I am in the Father, you are in me, and I am in you."

"May they be made perfect in one."

To understand this unity and the Spirit.... here is the resource that explains it in simple terms. "Gospel Enigma" Find it at the top of the list at New Free Books.

But I have to say in advance, you are speaking of the Kingdom Gospel, not the Pauline Gospel. There is a difference you know.
