This tax will be used to offset the effect of their extra greenhouse gas emissions, an Australian medical expert has proposed.
They should pay 5,000 dollars (4,400 US) a head for each extra child and up to 800 dollars every year thereafter, according to the plan published in the Medical Journal of Australia.
In contrast, contraceptives and sterilisation procedures would be eligible for carbon credits, suggested Professor Barry Walters at the King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth.
"Every family choosing to have more than a defined number of children should be charged a carbon tax that would fund the planting of enough trees to offset the carbon cost generated by a new human being"
What Next' any ideas.
Could I get carbon credits, tax rebate if Iam castrated or have a hysterectomy...

Dang, I was going to post this but you beat me to it. Yep, now we start to see the lunacy the left has become.
This is only a start to the insanity. I also read where they were considering building a "man made volcano" to inject the atmosphere with sulfates (as they promote global dimming". Or dumping iron (I have also heard urine) into the ocean to promote algae growth, or a giant solar shade. My god these llefties are freaking scary psychotic about a giant lie.

I thought that this was a wind up...I read it yesterday .Apparently you are also supposed to plant a tree to offset the child's carbon footprint!!.Well I already have 3 kids so obviously I am biased but didn't they try something similar in china......its called Communism! And if the crazies actually got their way what would happen to all those extra children (in china they were sometimes left to die). I have heard some rubbish about climate change but this really is taking the p iss! Lets start with the gaseous nonsense that comes out of these idiots mouths if they want to tax yet something else.

Does he think we should all go and live in China where they leave their girl children in the woods to die and in orphanages and forget them? What kind of planet does he think that we live on? It seems like "Big Brother" really wants to dictate on how, when, where and why we live our lives. What about multiple births?
I am all for saving the planet and recycle everything and anything that can be recycled, we use public transport and don't own a car. But I think that his idea of carbon tax is just another excuse for goverments to siphon money off people, they would plant 1 tree costing £5 and charge you £10.
Get real mate and find some real positive ways on off setting the carbon levels, perhaps closing your mouth from all the hot air escaping would be a good place to start.

In theory it sounds pretty impressive, however, how do the authorities deal with this, and even more so for the huge amount of children who will never know who their fathers are, or their brother & sisters for that matter.
Society has changed so much, I wonder if there will be FAMILIES in the future, it seems to be a thing that is fast fading into the past.
And ONE CHILD policies do not work, you have to read about that problems China are having right now, having tried in inforce it. If they cant, we certainly cannot do that in this country.

I have three kids. I'm a single mum. I pay my way, and my job is environmentally friendly. ( yes Chris p, not a dole scrounger as you may like to think).
My kids live in an environmentally household, and will hopefully grow up more green than a lot of their peers. Now tell me why I have to pay for contributing positively to the environment?
P.s. Any men out there who feel the need to jump on the band wagon and be castrated, good on you.

I'm sorry, but this is very possibly the worst scheme to "save" the earth, and "stop" global warming that I have ever heard. If you don't want to have any kids, then be my guest. It's the law of natural selection at work. The wise live long and pass their wisdom on to further generations, and vice versa.
Taxing us on having children does not even lie in the government's power. (They currently give us tax BENEFIT'S for each child.)
For another thing, if no one has any kids, then mankind will cease to exist, but I guess that could be what you want. Only radical liberals could possibly want this to happen.

Some 30 years ago I was in Singapore and they had a scheme to limit births- maybe the Prof in Oz should look at that one.
The way it worked was for the Country to pay, in the "normal" way for the health, education, etc., of the first two children of any couple. If people chose to have a third or more children, then they had to accept that it was their choice to provide fully for the extra offspring - their schooling, higher education, medical care. An interesting way of making people think before they embarked on large families and quite the reverse of our way of thinking in the West.

What's next?
Most likely Sharia Law. The Islamic world certainly isn't buying into this canard, and at 6 kids/woman will be taking over in a generation or two.

Sounds fair, but I think also people on benefits should not get any extra for the 3rd child.
Its a shame that this will not become law. Another great idea, population will very slowly shrink back down to sensible levels.

$ 1,000,000 tax credit for anyone who has a vasectomy AND a hysterectomy?
Some survey in the UK reckons it costs £ 180,000 to raise a child as it is, and the birth rate in a number of European countries is not high enough to pay for the care of our ageing populations. Australians may be able to offset this charge by selling their extra babies to Europe.
