You can get a urinary tract infection at any time. It is usually from the bacteria in the colon (E coli) since they tube into the female bladder is so short, the bacteria get easy admittance. Once one is in place only antibiotics will get rid of it (despite what holistics practice); but cranberry juice & hydration can help stop one from forming; as can hygienic measures such was wiping front to back, not using nylon underware, safeguards with sex, limiting fragrances and additives down there (bubble baths, scented soaps etc). Untreated urinary infections can travel to the kidneys and cause serious infections.

You can get a UTI anytime. They are caused by bacteria getting in your urinary tract. I have suffered from UTIs off and on for several years and find I am most susceptible when I get dehydrated. I get UTIs so easily that I make sure to avoid baths, go urinate after intercourse, and use personal hygiene wipes when I am on my period. Aside from the obvious which is good hygiene, drink lots of water and cranberry juice. I sometime even take herbal cranberry pills which seem to help some. Over the counter Uristat can help with the pain and burning but you will most likely have to get a prescription for an antibiotic to get rid of it. Hope you get better soon.

It is possible to get a UTI at anytime, especially if you are sexually active.
Foods cannot cure UTIs. You must get antibiotics.
Some foods and natural medicines can help with the symtpoms of UTIs, but once the bacteria is growing, it will continue to grow until an antibiotic will kill it. Cranberry just coats the bladder to help prevent the bacteria from eating away at your urinary lining, but the bacteria can still travel into your kidneys. If you get a kidney infection, you will need antibiotics for sure.

cranberry juice is always recommended to help fight urinary infections, but you may need to talk to a doc to get something stronger.
