As a christian I see God in everyday life and things and I'll give my reasons if you ask but...why don't you believe in God? What are your reasons?

My reasons for believing in God our much more soundly based than most people's reason for being Atheist. I believe in God for simple reasons such as My being alive. No not because he created me, but because he kept me alive through some many things that should have killed me. Um...because I have seen people go through hell on earth(I mean bad times) and make it through. And as for what would make me stop believing if they found the very bones of Jesus...that will make me a nonbeliever...thank you.

Why don't you believe in Thor?

For the same reason you don’t believe in Zeus , or that the Planet Mars is the God of War.

There is no reason to suppose such an item as a God exists or ever existed, what you say you see everyday can be explained without the need to appeal to a supernatural being. Ignorance breeds the need for God , Knowledge and understanding removes the need for God.

lb_centaur: Huzzah for a well typed, well thought out, meaningful answer. That's one of the best that I've ever seen.

That said, I turn my attention to the question at hand.

As a christian, you see god in everyday life. Atheists, Agnostics, Pagans, Wiccans, Buddhists, Nihilists, and pretty much every type of person ever that is not christian does not see god. If we did, we'd be christian, or possibly jewish.

Frankly, we have no evidence of your god. None, whatsoever. Any evidence that you give that is not concrete is not evidence at all. It is faith, and faith actually requires you to believe in something that you cannot prove, which is exactly the opposite of how we work. You may see god's handiwork in animals where we see evolution and natural selection. This makes more sense to us, because we can prove it.

Furthermore, Atheism is the belief that there are no higher powers at work, anywhere in the world, at any time. A = Without. The = God. Ism = a practice of a person. Atheism = the practice of being without God. As far as reasons go, we have a bunch of Christians claiming that some invisible being in the sky granted them life out of dust. If someone told you that the sky was magenta and refused to prove it, would you believe it, even if they did with all their heart and soul? Why should you? We see your argument in the same light. Why should we believe when there is no proof?

Why don't you believe in any other Gods then? There is testimony that they exist, there are religious books from the ancient Egyptians on their Gods, on Greek Gods, on Roman Gods, on Babylonian Gods. Why not those? Is it because you know they do not exist and there is no evidence to support their existence? Well, since you would answer yes to that, or else you would believe, then the same goes for me and your God. No evidence, nothing more than books written by humans. As for nature, it is amazing that a God would create humans who live so against nature. So maybe God created nature and the Devil created humans, that could be a possibility. But in all reality, no evidence for a God at all. Hence no blind faith on this person's part.

Because, if I believed in the god of any given religion, I would feel obliged, logically, to also believe in the god of every religion that is at least as verifiable as the god I first decided upon (each are as provable as the next, sadly). And, I really think that it would be too difficult to give appropriate homage to every god ever to be conceived. So I settle for one...until I know 1. that any god exists and 2. which religion best describes it.

There are a few reasons but the biggest reason why atheist dont want to believe is so they can live and do whatever they want and have no consious about it. Saying there is no God is also sayin there is no hell. And having no hell in their lives they can just live anyway they want and not have to worry about burning in the lake of fire for all eternity when the Lord returns for his children, real SOON !!!!

I don't believe in unicorns. There is no evidence that unicorns exist or ever existed. Unicorns are something fantastic made up by people. There have been people who believed they were real but as we learned more about the world we learned that they do not exist.

Now, I will equate unicorns and the belief in gods. If you want a person to believe in something fantastic, you need to give them some pretty fantastic proof. If you want to believe in it then go for it. However, don't allow your belief to cause harm, do not push your belief on others, and do not allow your belief to erase your identity.

You see God in everyday life because you want to believe in that kind of thing.

A few years ago I was in grad school and I took a class that examined amazing claims and what people do/say/fall for who believe them. I did a project on ghost photography, made several VERY good fake ghost photos, submitted them to a ghost hunting message board, and everyone there thought my photos were total proof that ghosts exist.

They wanted to believe, so they did. When I showed my photos to someone who didn't believe in ghosts they said that they were nice fakes, and didn't look at them twice.

Some people want and need to believe in a deity to feel comfort and have peace of mind, and some don't. I don't.

Because I've done the research, I've asked the questions, I've searched within and without. And do you know what I came up with? Nothing. The conclusion that it is impossible for man to truly understand what a divine being is so we make them up to follow. What you see in life is not what the rest of the world will see in life. It's called perception and that is what truth is. Nothing more, nothing less.

Many reasons. Mostly that there is NO evidence.

But one of my favorites, is to seriously contemplate the expanse of the universe.
To think that this tiny speck of a planet is some imaginary deity's ant farm seems very egotistical.
That 2 people could commit a "sin" and bring evil into the entire universe? That seems crazy to me.
