Why do you follow a religion that continues to maintain a second-class role for women in many of its congregations today?
Why does Christianity in general refuse ordination for women as ministers or the priesthood?
Why does Christianity maintain the subservient role women are to fill in the household?
How do you deal with Apostle Paul's words: "As in all the churches of the saints, women should be silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as the law says. If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church."

Is it any wonder that Jesus' apostles were all MEN?
Or that Jesus and God himself are MEN?
Or that ALL the Bible Prophets are MEN?
Or that MOST female roles in the Bible have in general NEGATIVE CONNOTATIONS? (Eve, Lot's wife and daughters, Mary of Magdalene, Salome, The Queen Of Sheba, etc)

I am more spiritual than religious but I agree with everything you are saying. I'm no feminist by any means, but I am an independent woman who can think for herself.

Whewwwww! You sure have a problem with something that is so not true. We all have a role to play. I do not think that God thinks of me as a second class citizen. I am God's child and I know how much He loves me (you too). As for the women in the Bible, there are alot of women that held import places. My goodness look at Mary and the important role she had. Look and Ruth, Naomi there are more.

Many women were part of the group of apostles that followed Jesus. There were prophetesses in the Bible, and women do not have a second class role. This question obviously shows your lack of knowledge in the role of women in the Bible. One of the most esteemed roles was given to the Virgin Mary, mother of Christ. That's a huge honor. You can also read about Jesus' conversations w/women and that will show you his respect for them.

Our church covered this particular verse in the Bible on Sunday. According to the research my Pastor has done over the last year, he explained that during this time, church teachings were more of a dialog than it tends to be now. Also, during this time women tended not to have the education available to them as they do now. Our Pastor researched various translations of the original language in which this was written. He was much more eloquent than I am being here. He explained that this was much more specific to the church at Corinth than to our western world. It was an instruction not to disrupt the dialog if the woman did not understand something, perhaps. It was also a widely held belief then that it was shameful for a married woman to speak to another man to whom she was not related during that time. A belief not held in our western culture.

Only men can receive the priesthood. That's the rule, that's just how it is.
If God wants women to be able to be priesthood holders, he will tell us.
Women has many roles in leading churches everywhere, but they just aren't ministers/preachers in many.

You mention a few women in your Add Detail...but why didn't you mention Hagar, Rebbecca, Rachel, Tamar, Esther, Ruth, etc?
BTW Mary Magdalene is not a bad woman, and no verses say anything bad about her.

I asked that same question to my cousin who is catholic.. She said that she doesn't believe that god is sexist, long ago when the bible was written it was normal for women to be treated as if they were property. Its not the word of god but the word of man. Also, there isn't much else for a choice when it comes to religion. She was raised christian and believes all religions are a path to god. All written by man and misinterpreted my man.
I don't agree with her but that's what she believes.

I find it amusing that Atheist men continue to insist how oppressed I am as a Christian woman... let's see my husband is supposed to die for me, support me, he's not allowed to even *look* at another woman with lust, he's supposed to work hard, raise my children, and love me from his heart.
Here's a shocker for you:
I've heard women speak in church! (often!)
My husband respects me and takes my advice at home!
I work outside the home!
You'd think you've never met a Christian before the way you're stereotyping...
Here's a list of 188 women in the bible... did you know women were teachers in the New Testament? Financial supporters of Jesus's ministry? Prophetesses and Judges in the Old Testament?

By this world's standards and culture do you judge.
A Christian understands and follows, seeing that God has certain ROLES for each.
God is more demanding of the man, by the way.
Clearly, while you apparently understand this world, you do not have the understanding from the Bible.

That's your opinion. Never once did I feel "demeaned" in church.
Now if I were being stoned by the men for wanting to drive a car....... Oh, wait. Tha's not Christianity, is it? Oops.
