Hi,
I had mine out when I was about your age. The doc told me it would be HORRIBLE...you dont want to do it, ect.
Well, I did it....and, compaired to all the attacks of pharyngitis, and tonsillitis, and strep throat that I was getting every 3-6 weeks for 14 years, this was NOTHING.
It was a LITTLE sore....when I woke up....the worst part was that I woke up SHIVERING so bad, that THAT is what caused my jaw to hurt. I found out later it had to do with the TYPE of anesthia they gave me, and how I reacted to it. This was the first time I had ever had surgery.
Otherwise....I was fine. Came home....ate some applesauce---nice and cool and had sustinace to it. I highly recommend stocking up on that BEFORE hand.
I kept to fluids, and soft diet for a few days, then pasta, and I was fine....every so often it wasn't the easiest to swallow something, or, stuff would go UP not down....weird.
DONT yell...i made that mistake....had a little POP on one side of my throat...you could see the little blood clot for a few hours......ewww. It went away with swishing my mouth though and didnt bleed again.
The only thing I HATE now....when I sneeze....sometimes.....it comes out the mouth. My husband says his does the same thing and he had his tonsils out.
I HAVE had strep since, and pharyngitis...but, WOW...night and day difference. Now, they are so mild, and do not hurt at all. Before, I was sick ALL the time, and it affected my asthma.....now, my asthma is so well controlled. Wish they would have done it YEARS ago.....and, I also RARELY get strep and pharyngitis as well....very rare....strep maybe every 2 years, and have to be exposed to it bad, and pharyngitis for only like a day or two and mild....from sinuses usually.
Hope this helps.

It is very painful I had mine taken out when i was 23. It felt like I was swallowing razor blades, I had to crush my pain pills into my mashed potatoes, and applesauce. And you know the feeling of your throat hurting and you keep on swallowing? Yep that's what I did. It took about a week to recover and it wasn't pleasant. I'm 26 now and haven't had a problem since. No strep, no tonsillitis, no sore throat. It was worth it!

i am 23 years old and had my tonsils removed this year. the pain wasn't too bad as along as i took the pain killers regularly. the only problem i had was that i got arache as a side effect. but having said that this didn't last long and was easily relieved. i had 2 weeks of work as i am a nurse and couldn't risk getting and infection.
all in all i am glad i have had it done i have had no problems since the operation.
