Should I take a class? Buy some clubs? What are good women's clubs?

I just started playing this past summer. I took 4 lessons from a PGA pro at a local course. He provided the clubs for the first 3 lessons and advised me on which type of clubs to buy if I were going to continue the game. After the 4th lesson, he advised me to go play a few games and come back and take some refresher classes.

I called a small golf store in my area and they had a discontinued set of ladies clubs which I bought at half price. I didn't want to invest a lot of money in equipment if I wound up hating the game or just couldn't get it.

Start with lessons then get clubs.

I too just recently started golf. A guy at the golf center told me that if you really want to get started, it would be best to take some lessons. It doesn't matter if you have top of the line golf balls or clubs if you don't know the mechanics or the way to properly use them. Most gold stores have starter sets of golf clubs for $120.00 or so. Then you can add better clubs as you progress.

You don't have to buy any clubs just yet. Wait to see if you really enjoy it first. I would start by asking some friends who golf who is a good teaching pro in your area. Contact the pro and tell them that you want to take the game up and would like a lesson, and that you do not have clubs. The pro will supply the clubs. From here you both can formulate a plan.
Good luck,it's a great game.

I suggest an introduction class, most local clubs offer one, also most continuing education programs offer one. The important thing is to learn the basics of a good golf swing to really enjoy the game.

Can you borrow someones clubs for a little bit and take some lessons?
After that, buy some good used clubs like in this article:

Txworker -

There are a lot of pertinent questions that need to be asked before this question can truly be answered.

- What's your age?

- What's your physical condition?

- Where are you located?

- Do you have access to a good practice facility?

- What are you trying to achieve by playing golf? What's your goal?

- What type of time commitment are you willing to make?

These are just a few of questions you'd need to answer before you get started.

If you go to a qualified PGA professional for a lesson, he or she should ask these questions prior to beginning a teaching session with you.

A great thing to do would be to contact your local PGA section and ask them for a reference on a good teaching professional in your area. Contact the pro and solicit advice from the expert then you can then move forward from that point.

See here for a list of PGA sections:

Good Luck!

Classes and driving range. But mix some golf up with friends and just have a great time playing....don't worry about scores or making a great shot....just play together.

They have starter sets that you can buy for like $200, that comes as a complete set, with ur woods, irons, putter and a bag. check out costco, sports authority and other sports stores. id buy the starter set and just go to the driving range and hit balls.
