Microsoft's XBOX 360 is an awesome console, with a large online user base established via Xbox LIVE, and a varied range of impressive games to choose from. The Elite is the best value 360 package, but you should consider the additional cost for add-ons (HD DVD, Wi-Fi, etc.) and Xbox LIVE fees. Until recently, the 33% failure rate of XBOX 360 consoles (compared to PS3's 1%), and all the hassles that go with getting it repaired / replaced, has been a major drawback for the 360, but it seems Microsoft have addressed the hardware failure problems with the latest batch of Premium & Elite consoles...
Sony's PlayStation 3 console already has the edge on the 360 with more power, better graphics potential and state-of-the-art gaming capabilities. It also has Blu-ray, Wi-Fi, HDMI output, etc. built-in to the console. The PlayStation Network online community should, with time, rival Xbox LIVE, and it's free! PlayStation Home is on it's way... And, it's as much a computer as it is a games console, with options for installing Linux, using a keyboard & mouse for input, browsing the Web, etc...
The selection of games available for the consoles is often cited as being in the 360's favor, but the PS3's catalogue of game titles is rapidly expanding & may surpass the 360 in the near future. The PlayStation 3 appears to be more expensive, but if you breakdown what's included, it actually offers slightly better value for your money. It's a tough call, but I feel the PS3 has more going for it than the 360. Game titles that are exclusive to each console and movies exclusive to either HD DVD or Blu-ray may also be a deciding factor in your purchase decision...

Lol, You've asked this in "PlayStation" = Biased Views
The Main Q's is Why do you want it? To play Games or to have an Entertainment System?
PS3 = Entertainment System
Xbox 360= Gaming System
Ok, What Sony have done is tried to shove too much things into the PS3 - Which may seem Good, but their forgetting why people buy Playstation's,, and thats too play.... Sony should remember that.
Xbox, Yes, Doesn't have HD Drive, (Bought Separately) but one thing is their always focus on the Games,
Are you really that lazy, you'd complain about changing a disk once in the blue moon?
If yes, Buy PS3
If no, Buy Xbox 360
Do you want a Good Online Gaming?
Xbox, Yes PS3's is Free, But its crap
Do you want to watch "Blue Ray" DVDs? Do you really care? Do you have a 32"+ TV to actually benefit, If yes, PS3
If no, Xbox
Ring of Death etc, Guys you can't really moan about something Microsoft is and has got down
The Gaming war, to be honest is now, just stupid, Both consels are getting pretty much the same games, with the odd release that's will Obviously be over hyped (e.g. Halo 3, and Metal Gear Solid ) Yes both Great games, but sounds desperate as when it comes Sony will plug that game non-stop
As the guy said above^ Obviously PS3 will eventually have better Graphic in Games, but at the expense at Good Games,,, Xbox 360 will have Great games at a slightly lower Quality
All up to You,

Online gaming is free for the PS3 and Xbox Live is £40 per year in UK/ $50 per year in America, so over 5 years that's £200/$250 saved compared to Xbox live. If you like online play there's Resistance, Motorstorm and Warhawk. And Unreal Tournament 3, Haze and Metal Gear Online are coming out. Also the Playstation Network has Little Big Planet and Home coming to it. The Playstation Store has some great things on it like classic Playstation games, as well as Wipeout HD, Calling All Cars and Everyday Shooter.
Blu-ray discs mean that more can be stored on PS3 games allowing them to be bigger. An Xbox DVD holds about 8GB but a single layer Blu-ray disc holds 25GB and a dual layer holds 50GB yet a 360 game costs the same as a PS3 game. Grand Theft Auto 4 may have to be put on multiple discs for the 360 because they're smaller and you might not like having to get up to change the disc. One level on Killzone 2 takes up 2GB which shows the scale of PS3 games. The PS3 is a very cheap Blu-ray player while you have to buy a £120/$200 add-on to play HD-DVD movies on the 360.
The PS3 has been out a year less than the 360 and it's graphics are already equalling or bettering those on the 360. As the developers become better at developing games for the PS3 the gap will only widen. As far as games go most of the better games for the Xbox are either multi-platform or going to come out for the PC at some point like Gears of War and Halo 1 & 2 already have.
The 360 is backwards compatible with about 300 Xbox games but if you get a backwards compatible PS3 then there are thousands of PS1 and PS2 games you can play.
Here's a list of what I think are or will be the best games for the PS3:
Well right now there's Resistance, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Ratchet and Clank, Virtua Fighter 5, Heavenly Sword, Stranglehold, Assassin's Creed, Virtua Tennis 3, Folklore, Uncharted, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Guitar Hero 3, Singstar and Call of Duty 4.
Killzone 2, Haze, MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Afrika, Motorstorm 2, Wipeout PS3, Yakuza 3, LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, White Knight Chronicles, Disgaea 3, The Getaway 3, Heavy Rain, SOCOM: Confrontation, Wardevil, LA Noire, Tekken 6 and God of War 3 will all be coming out as PS3 exclusives. Also the maker of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus is making his next game exclusively on PS3.
As well as this there are ones that are multi-platform like Devil May Cry 4, Lost Planet, Resident Evil 5, The Orange Box, Eternal Sonata, Soul Calibur 4 and Rock Band. Also a new Jak and Daxter game and Bioshock are rumoured to be coming out on the PS3. So in my opinion the PS3 has a much stronger and more varied lineup then the 360.
The Xbox is cheaper (but I don't think it is in the long run) and Xbox live is probably better (but I don't think the difference is worth the cost). The original Xbox only had a lifespan of 4 years and with the 360's problems it may only last another 2-3. The PS2 had a lifespan of 6 years and the PS3 is planned to last 7-10 years. All PS3 controllers are rechargeable, you just connect them to the USB port to charge, but you have to buy a rechargeable battery pack if you don't want to use AA batteries for the 360 pad.
The PS3 has much better hardware than the Xbox which has massive 30% failure rate. The PS3's failure rate is 0.2%. 360's are known to scratch discs if they're moved while on, this would be practically impossible to happen on the PS3 anyway because blu-ray discs are hard-coated.
The PS3 is the most value for money as all models have a hard drive and Wi-fi built in but for the 360 you have to pay more in some way or another for these features. Also to play DVDs you have to buy a DVD remote for the 360 but you can just use the sixaxis if you want to play DVDs on the PS3. Only the PS3's games are all region free so you can import games from other countries before they come out or get an obscure Japanese game if you want. Also the PS3 plays full 1080p hi-definition whereas the Xbox just upscales the image.
You should get the console that has the games that you want but I think the PS3 is better because of it's games, features and reliability.

It all depends on you! If you want great game and quite good graphics then get the xbox 360, the xbox 360 has a better game selections for you to choose from however they do have a chance of breaking down but the 3 year warrenty covers that .....
However if you just want better graphics go for the PS3 the PS3 has been known to have better graphics however a smaller amount of GOOD games, so the decision is up to you ......
Hope this helps :p

Wow, this is a heated debate, without any real answer either. Some people like Xbox, some like PS3, in my experiance, older gamers will go Xbox as games tend to be more involved, and younger players for PS3 so they can talk feeds and speeds (like wow its blueray and really fast with this great graphics thingy), but ultimately it does'nt really matter, consumers can try both and make up their own mind. Sony are trading alot on their history (ps1&2) but its by no means a guarantee that they'll take the crown for best console. In my house we have, Sega Mega Drive, PS1, PS2, Sega Dreamcast, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii, DS Lites, 2 x hi spec gaming PC's etc, etc... all this means you play on the best device for the game, FPS games = pc's, sports, driving etc = consoles. If your buying a console, don't worry, they're all good, there is not a bad one at the moment and i'm sure you'd be delighted with either or both!

id have to say the xbox 360. it has a wide range of games that cost at least a tenner less than the ps3 equivilent. the xbox has a massive 120gb hdd avaliable whereas the ps3 maximum is 60gb. the xbox costs 100 quid less than the ps3. the graphics are outstanding on the 360 - more realistic than the ps3. the online community is a lot better on the 360 - its easy to navigateand to set up unlike the ps3 which is more complicated and has limited online games.
the xbox 360 won loads at this years game console awards whereas the ps3 didnt win one.
the only fault with the xbox is it costs 30 quid off ebay for a gold xbox live account and they have a tendancy to burn out after a while (that is why microsoft extended the warrenty on them from 1 to 3 years as long as the fireware remains unchanged eg no flashing or chipping) alternatively there are ebay sellers who offer a repair service at a reasonable price. but the ps3 has a similar problem where it just fails to turn on and there is no cheap fix.
the xbox 360 offers a unique gaming experience by using gamer points to score a players ability - as you play a game and get pass a certain bit or discover a secret then you unlock a game point score or achievement which accumilates to your overall score - the bigger your score the more experienced a gamer you are. this adds an the gaming experience making you think that you've achieved something and this can be compared to other gamers online who own the same games.
i own both consoles - i have bought 4 xbox 360s as ive burned them out by constantly being on them and have only 1 ps 3 with only 3 games as they are expensive and offer a poor gaming experience.

Realisticly the hardware ( gadget) of the ps3 is the suitable there is by potential of a few distance and has the main memeory + plus in total is the cheapist gadget for on line money and has no value and could never value something to play on line, the xobx all i will say the hardware is CRAP and a few people say the ps3 application is basically too crowded yet its the comparable because of the fact the xbox (the recent xbox replace and the recent xbox itself is copyed off of the ps3)

I've answered so many of these Xbox v.s. PS3 questions, I'm not going to go into detail. The PS3 is better and that's it.
PS3= Blu-ray, Web browser, more advanced technology, longer lifespan, more reliable, Bluetooth, Free Online play, built in WiFi, good games out now and even more coming in the future and more.
Xbox 360= Red Ring of Death, and more games out now but fewer big exclusives coming in 2008.
