I wish to travel abroad (England) before I enter film school. From my knowledge, Film school is expensive and very demanding, so I dont think I will have much time in the coming years to travel abroad again. My parents refuse to give me my passport on the grounds that I am still not mature enough to travel abroad by myself, and that I have obligations at home I need to take care of. I dont see anything solid in this, since they were originally pushing me to get into Film school in January. Now that my start date has been pushed back to July, I moved my trip to January, and because of that they are making a lot of excuses as to why I have no right to go abroad.

Do I have any legal right to get my passport from them as a 19 year old?

Well, I am sure that since you are over 18, you are entitiled to your passport, and could apply for and get a new one. HOWEVER...WHO is going to pay for your college tuition and expenses? Your Parents? Think about it! If you want to make all your own decisions , then you need to be financially independent too. If you are still living with your parents, being supported by them, and they will be paying for your college education, then you will have to be subject to their decisions. You could try peacefully talking to them and see what you would need to do to gain their confidence. And...who would pay for your trip to England if you did get to go?

if you have traveled before than there is no right for them to kep the passport from you. You do have a right though to make another one since u are over 18. you cant report the old one missing and get another one and stop all the hassle but it wont do good with your parents. But if youre parents have your passport but wont hand it over u have the rights to obtian it from them bc of ur age.

The beginning certificates is theirs (it exchange into issued to them to tutor they gave beginning to you) yet you're legally entitled on your Passport, Drivers License, and Social risk-free practices Card that are all the valuables of the government. Suing your mothers and fathers or submitting a criminal grievance might desire to be your final hotel, yet the two are supported by potential of modern-day regulation as in user-friendly terms you're entitled to hold those records. Any decide might furnish an order for them to hand the records over to you.

I don't know what state you live in but 18 is considered the majority and legal age in many states; 21 in others. Check at www.google.com to find out the age of adulthood in your state. You sound mature to me. Why are they holding back on the passport? Good luck.

You are an adult. If they physically have it and you can't get to it, just report your passport lost / stolen and apply for a new one on your own.
