Seems like since we are supposed to be such a melting pot of diversity, that we would give federal holidays to more than just Christian holidays, why should a Jewish person have to use their vacation time to celebrate Hannukah, or a Muslim have to use extra time to celebrate their time.

Take it up with your union or employer.

I'm sure most of them would probably be more than happy to make accomodations - dispersing the 'holiday' days of one employee so that they don't overlap with those of others would mean they could operate longer without increasing costs.

I'm sure your employer could care less if you taking the day off because it's called 'Sweet Monkey Tuesday', 'Ramadan', 'Christmas' or the 'Feast of Maximum Occupancy'. As long as everyone gets the same number of holidays (i.e. about one a month) who cares?

By melting pot do you mean all the immigrants meld together in this pot and pop out as Americans? If so, then they should celebrate the holidays us Americans celebrate. Christmas isn't even much of a Christian holiday anymore. Christmas being the only federal holiday I think your question is moot.

Im sorry but I believe that Christmas is the only Christian holiday that is also a federal holiday. So lets look at the list of federal holidays just to make sure.

1. New Years Day
2. Martin Luther King's Birthday
3.Washington's Birthday or Presidents Day
4. Memorial Day
5. Independence Day
6. Labor Day
7.Columbus Day
8. Veterans Day
9. Thanksgiving Day (Not specifically Christian)
10. Christmas Day

Thats one out of ten. So what was your point again??

Christian, Islamic, Buddist, whatever... they are all for the heathen! Hey, "Christians!" Check out Jeremiah 10:2-6 written about 600 years before Messiah.

Like most of the Middle East is Islamic, Asia - Buddist ; the west is predominantly Roman Catholic ("Christian").

And majority rules in a demonocracy, correct?

All of these "religions" are secular in nature because they are mingled with the State. In other words, they are under the control of the state or national government via incorporation. See http://hushmoney.org/

And last, none of the above represent the original government and faith of the disciples of Yahshua. That is known as the Kingdom of YHWH or Kingdom of Heaven.

See http://www.embassyofheaven.com/

And such Kingdom is not of this world.

Think about this for a moment; most other religions have holidays that span several days. sometimes more than a week. (The song 12 days of Christmas comes from pagan tradition of celebrating Yule for 12 days). It would be counter productive to shut down for ALL of the religious holidays represented by ALL the religions in the US. Considering that some pagan faiths have religions nearly everyday, businesses and government would never be open. It's just easier to narrow it down to one day. Or at least, that's my opinion.

I'm not sure the USA does only observe Christian holidays.

Memorial Day is part of the "secular" Cult of the Republic, as are Veteran's Day, Flag Day, and Independence Day.

Groundhog Day is the Pagan holiday of Imbolc.

Thanksgiving bridges the Cult of the Republic with western monotheism.

Federal holidays are a matter of convenience and practicality. The government can't really function if 80% of the employees don't show up. It is less expensive to just be closed that day.

The only Christian holiday that is also a federal holiday is Christmas. Most people also consider it a secular holiday.

It affect the economy to have too many holidays, and the others have not yet much political power backing to make a change on the observed list of holidays.

Call your Senators and Reps. and suggest an additional holiday or exchange one for the one you are supporting by one of the current ones, and them come back here with the reponses you will get.

I think the main thing is the schools. They can't give away too much vacation time, and a slim majority are "Christians". At least, they haven't been to church in their entire lives and barely remember who Jesus was, but they get Christian holidays off.

You obviously fail to understand the term "melting pot".

The American melting pot does not promote diversity. It does the exact opposite. It promotes "Americanism".

Any person from any race, religion, social background is thrown into the melting pot an immediately conforms to the majority - the majority being WASPS (white anglo-saxon protestants). THAT is the melting pot.
