Its because most of them will never take the time to watch a race and see that its more than just driving in a circle.
They don't hear the crew chief and driver talking about making tiny little changes to the cars setup that can make your car run up front or dead last depending on which way you adjust.
They don't feel how hot it is in the car or the loads on your body.

A few reasons.
The first, and most obvious is that "Oh, your just turning left, sitting in the car." Yeah, it is that, plus being able to handle a car at a high rate of speed, inside a race car where tempatures are well over 100, and thats on a cool day.
The 2nd is that NASCAR isnt the most established out of the big sports in the US. Compared to all the others, NASCAR being on a huge stage in sports has been quite a short time (its been around for 60 years, but has been huge for the last 10-15 years). There are still those around that dont think much about NASCAR, and will make themselves heard.
Finally, its roots in the south, and its ties to the south. In some other regions of the country, it just doesnt have the ties that it does. It might be easier to convince someone in North Carolina to get into NASCAR because its been around them all their lives, but for someone from Washington state, it might be much harder, because it just became big recent, and NASCAR just aint around the area like it might be elsewhere.

Yes, people do this to me all of the time, but just ask what their favorite sport and tell them in the same manner in which they told you. If they said that they like baseball, just tell them if they are going to watch people hit a ball with a stick and run around in a circle for three hours.
If any of these people would just think about it, they would realize that it is an extremely difficult sport. By staying in a car that can get into the hundreds in temperature and having to turn that 3,400 pound car for four or more hours without getting out for a stretch can be extremely difficult. Also, you have to have complete concentration and control over yourself. Oh, and by the way, you have to go out and try to win the thing too.

People who don't like NASCAR are afraid of how technical it really is. They probably couldn't even change the oil on their own car. They don't understand NASCAR racing because it's not something we do when we're growing up as kids, (like play games that have a ball) I never liked ball games and always liked to modify mans greatest invention. The internal combustion engine. I was modifying Cox .049 engines when I was nine years old and rebuilt a lawnmower motor when I was eleven I was building street racing machines since I was seventeen, and anybody who knows my abilities will share in my conversation of automotive technology. No one would ever criticize the fact that NASCAR is one of my favorite sports, because if they saw my smile turn into a laugh, they would know the jokes on them (for not knowing) But most racers can tolerate others ignorance and realize that they're just saying negative things about racing out of sheer ignorance to the technical aspect of the sport. And most of those people are the ones who are only spectators. But it's totally fine by me, because everyone has a right to do what they want.

I am a fan of all car races. F1 is my fav. I don't disrespect NASCAR but to watch the race from the start to the finish is very boring(seeing guys going 200-300+ laps in a cricle). I watch the race when there's only 20 or less laps left in the race, this is exciting time to watch. I would watch the whole race if it's on a road track.

All sports have their detractors. In the case of NASCAR, it is easy to dismiss because of it's roots as a "hillbilly" sport. It's always been sport to dismiss Southerners as ignorant and their favorite pastimes as lowbrow.
The stereotype perpetuated by comedians like Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall doens;t help- though I think these guys are just laughing at stereotypes of themselves.
All thart to say- it takes understanding to appreciate and some just won't.
That's o.k. As long as NASCAR has fans, it will always exist.

i'm a die hard nascar fan, but about 5five years ago, when i really got exposed 2 it because my brothers started watching it, i couldn't stand it. now here i am, five years later, i get really depressed if a miss 1 race. but it only took about a month 4 me 2 really get in2 it, and understand the true meaning of nascar. what ur hearing from people i'm hearing from many of my friends. i first i thought that was really disrespectful, but now i ignore it cuz they are really missing out on a good sport that is in fact more popular than basketball!!

First things first......It is 43 cars making left turns.
People who do not know what goes on during a race and do not understand the intricacies of it only see cars going around in a circle. It is no different than someone who does not understand other sports. Their just ignorant.

Yes, I have one of these people in my life....I call her Sister! Jeez, I have been a fan for 20 years & still can not get her or her husband to watch a minute of it. I go to MIS every year, it's a tradition. This past June my sister even bought tickets to go, I thought for sure I converted her. NOPE! She backed out 3 weeks before the race. "I just couldn't spend 4 hours watching them go around in circles making left hand turns" she says. UGHH.....I say.
Well this year Christmas is at my house...oh I am pulling out every NASCAR tape I can find. It's going to be NASCAR themed.........hahahahahaha!! Heck why not I only get Christmas @ my house once every 5 years. I am going to make it count. Wish me luck.
