Should you fold them up, take them off the bed and leave them, take them off the bed and put them in the laundry basket or remake the bed with your dirty sheets.

Or should you just ask your host what they prefer?

I agree with SayWhat and Maria..... just leave things as you found them, because you don't know for sure what the host is going to do with those sheets.... I mean, of course they'll wash them but you don't know when, and if the bed is going to be un-made 10 minutes or 10 days after you made it that's not your problem, you still left the room looking decent and tidied up. The last time I stayed at a friend's house abroad however, she had prepared a sofa bed for me. When I left, I folded the sheets and restored the sofa bed to its original condition, and just left the sheets on top of it. But it's because it wasn't a bed and I knew they'd have to restore the sofa bed anyway after I left, so I saved them the work. Had it been a bed, I'd just have remade it and let them decide if and when they were going to wash my dirty sheets. That's just me tho!

EDIT: I never ask the hosts what they want me to do because they'll always say "oohh just leave it like that, I'll take care of it later..."!!! And I don't like to leave a mess behind, so I really just leave things as I found them and let them decide what they'll do next.

You should ask. Our world is full of people too afraid to offend. No one is going to be offended if you just ask what should be done with the sheets! The second best choice is to go ahead and make the bed. But that might be even more of an annoyance to your host who is probably going to wash the sheets later. Definitely do not strip the bed and fold the sheets up. Only fold up your bedding if you, say, stayed on the couch with a blanket or something.

I think it is a fantastic gesture that you make the bed anyway. When your host is ready, they will wash the sheets. I personally hate looking at an undone or messy bed, but if you ask me, I would appreciate that you did ask, rather than leaving it there! I have had someone stay at my home for three months and did not bother even ONCE to make her own bed. I hated seeing that bed everyday, because she had to share the room with my toddler.... So, just fold up and if you want, ask what the host prefers..

Personally I like to make the bed. It makes the room look tidy and there's no chance of accidently leaving something behind in the scrunched up bedding.

If the host isn't able to get to the bed right away the room still looks nice.

This one is important for guests. I'm glad you asked it.

We have company all the time. I always hate it when they take the initiative to take off their own sheets. It leaves me with a messy bed and a laundry obligation.

Usually I get my house super clean for company. When they leave, if they make their bed before they go, I can relax and enjoy having my clean house all to myself. I will wash those sheets, but on my own schedule and when I've recouperated from the guests.

I would make the bed to be polite. Ask your host if you aren't sure, but never take matters into your own hands and strip the bed.

When people stay at my house in my guest room, they always make the bed when they leave. I think thats silly because i'm just going to wash them anyway! So, perhaps i'm rude, but I don't make the bed when I leave someone else's house. I think its a silly thing to make it when its just going to be un-made 10 minutes after you leave! :)

I think asking the host what they prefer is the best option.

You should remove them and put them in the laundry basket to save/(help) the host from doing it. Most host would want to wash sheets/pillowcases used by their guests.

Make the bed. If they want the sheets removed, they will take them off.

If you do remove the sheets, then fold them neatly. I know this sounds redundant, since they will clean the room after you are gone, but this keeps the room looking neat, and shows that you are a polite guest..

I always ask the host! Some people are really funny about their laundry... So before you proceed to make the bed, ask the question first.. Then go from there. God bless****
