I am part American Indian but people tell me that I'm just white. Aren't American Indians a seperate race from whites?

People say what they do because you're probably light skinned and they percieve you as white. What matters is how you perceive yourself, and how much native ancestry you actually have. I mean it's okay if it matters to you if you're great great great great grandmother was native, but don't write a book about it. Usually for people to consider themselves mixed race you would have enough of the mix that it would make a difference to you culturally, and probably to how you look, but not necessarily in ways that are obvious- because the majority of people are not very observent, and want to classify everyone as one race or the other. So you will have to decide for yourself if mixed race is your identity, and then start telling people, don't ask them.

There is only one race: The Human Race. I think it would be safe to say that most of use are a great mixture of cultural heritages. I am Indian, Swedish, Irish, etc.

Depends on race.

Technically we are all the same race, or we couldn't breed and you wouldn't exist.

Most people whitewash or blackwash others.

For example, everyone says Obama is black, but he's only half.

And people say the same about Oprah, and she's part native and asian.

But what's important is what you see.

My 100% Native Friend gets called an "apple" by her 1/4 native friends cause she was adopted.

My 1/2 native friend, who looks white, has the same trouble.

I would say yes. To make things easy, I would just say "I am American." That is what you are after all.
