The amazing Kreskin?

There are a lot of interesting theories about this. Obviously we know that matter cannot be created or destroyed - it can only change form. Just know that this question cannot be answered. But just because it can't be answered conveniently and completely (with a "Poof - some deity did it") doesn't mean there isn't a perfectly scientific explanation. We just don't know the answer yet. And that's okay. It's okay to say, "I don't know."

It seems to me if deity does exist as a sentient being then you have the same question on your end. How did your deity come to be? How can something come from nothing? Technically the bible, or any other holy text, does not answer this question adequately either.

I dunno.

There's some evidence the question itself is a non-sequitor.

If time began when the Universe began, there was no "before" there was a Universe. That would make the question "how did something come from nothing" meaningless, with the Universe being causeless as an acceptable assertion, and thereby explain reality without having to fabricating a godhead as the explanation.

The idea of God came around back when we were a bunch of idiots long ago and we knew nothing of our world. Religion popped up and we all started believing that God's were responsible for everything. Time passes and the multiple God idea was tossed out for just one supreme God. More time goes by and we all wise up, or actually a small few of us wise up when we realize there is NO God and that religion has for some time been only a means of control. Bottom line is we came from a long process of evolution spanning billions of years.

Complex systems are known to emerge from simple ones.

Subatomic particles can be formed from energy.
Protons and neutrons can be formed from subatomic particles
Simple elements can be formed as protons and neutrons bond
Complex elements can be formed when simple elements ungo nuclear fusion
When complex elements cool they can bond and form chemical compounds
Chemical compounds can react to form organic chemicals
Certain organic chemicals have the ability to store information in their molecular structure
Other organic chemicals have parallel structures that allow for replication
Endosymbiosis allows for the combination of chemical properties into large macromolecules, capable of reproduction and information storage
An Phenotypic RNA world is born

the rest is simply an organic evolutionary process

people like to say that evolution can come from nothing, but you would have to make up a different word that defines the evolution of nothing. Because evolution is the evolving evolution of genes. And nothing is not a definite gene(not that i know) so explain to me damnit. that means that nothing is a gene and we evolved from it. I will agree the we have evolved but from something. but thats just me and what i believe to cope with life. so right on everybody

Something had to have been eternal first. This eternal factor be it God or love or what have you created everything material. Material things can be created and destroyed, but in the spiritual realm there is something/someone out there that cannot be created nor destroyed. It was and is and always will be always eternal and creating, maintaining and destroying material things.

Wha? Who said it did? Did it ever even occur to you that perhaps your hierarchy is a little askew? You have God at the top. What is matter goes at the top? Matter, then God, then, oh, heck. Whatever. But I can't recall anyone here saying, "All this came from nothing!" That's a christian (or at least, desert) belief.

there is a scientific explanation for everything.
but science is still in its infancy.
there are many theories on how the earth began, but there is no evidence that suggests that there was nothing to begin with. i think there may have been a celestial body that was destroyed causing the big bang.

Religious people say that. Each atheist has own idea. Believer say gods always exist. Universe always exist. Gods invented by men.

Christian, Theist, Whatever You Are, Drink!: How did something come from nothing?

Saying that God did it only begs the question of where God came from.
