do researchers adopt the beagles out to people when they are done with the experiments?? Or do they usually put the beagles to sleep?

That lab that I worked at did euthanize them after they were done. That was years down the road, but they did euthanize them. These dogs would not have adjusted to life in a home. A few MIGHT have, but as a whole, they would not have done well at all.
They were born in a breeding facility, they lived INSIDE their entire life. They NEVER saw the outdoors, they never were by themselves, they never had the experiences of "normal" dogs.
One that was taken outside FREAKED.
Personally, I think it would have been inhumane for them to be forced to live a "normal" life.

The ones I worked with did not have diseases injected into them. They were used for drug blood level studies. They were dosed with a drug...usually an antibiotic. Then blood was drawn at intervals over the next week. After the study, they had to be "off study" for a period of time...sometimes 1-6 months before the next study. Then, that group could go again. These dogs were pretty expensive, so they were used as long as possible. Some went to a geriatric study when they were older.

*another thing. I highly doubt you could ever have house-broken ANY of these dogs. They had never done anything but "go" when and where ever they wanted. I just would NOT se it in the best interest of these dogs to try and adopt them out after. Some other colonies, maybe. But most were WAY too institutionalized.

** pojo...you may not BUY products tested on animals, but if you have ever taken an antibiotic or any other medications or vaccines, you have gotten a benefit from animal testing.

No, they don't adopt them out-the Beagles that are used in labs usually die from what ever they are doing to them--the Military uses Beagles alot in their testings because they are so sweet natured-it's really sad and disgusting:( That is why I do not buy any products that are tested on animals.

Animals bred for and used for animal experiments are so badly abused and tortured in such horrendous and unimaginable ways for the whole of their lives that they are close to death by the time labs decide to dispose of them. It's incredible that humans can be so cruel just to keep a high salary. There is no benefit to be gained from repeatedly carrying out the same experiments on these poor creatures - the results have already been made known.

No further advancements have come through recent animal experimentation. And there have been horrendous results for humans due to drugs being found safe on animals and therefore assumed safe on humans - thalidomide being one of the better known ones.

They put them to sleep. There are many reasons for this but it is my understanding that the major reason is fear of drawing attention to themselves by terrorist organizations like ALF (Animal Liberation Front). Even though they would be doing a good thing by adopting them out they would also be calling attention to their existence in the first place. The kind of attention that could cause property damage at best and human lives at worst.

My life is dependent on prescription medications therefore my life is sustained by animal research

I'd imagine they put them to sleep, it'd be the kindest option after the type of experiments they do.. Would you want a beagle riddled with cancer?
