What can someone write in a chat room that was bad enough to be reported to and get their computer confiscated by the police? Someone I know through work has had this happen to them!

As far as I know, they only mentioned they'd been reported for being "nasty" to someone in the chat room.

I don't have anything to do with this person. I know them through my previous job.

Its irrelevant what may have been written/said.

At the end of the day, if someone has written something that has offended someone enough for them to report it to the Police, then the Police will seize the item as evidence if they think its necessary to do so to effectively investigate the alleged offence.

Something illegal: soliciting a minor for sex, sharing child pornography, attempting to defraud someone, conspiring to commit a crime, copyright infringment. The police could be investigating a crime, not connected to the chatroom, suspecting there is evidence on the computer.

the only reason their computer would have been confiscated was if it was suspected they were committing or had committed an offence - in the case of a computer i would say either 'grooming'( paedophilia ) or terrorism or fraud - if i were you i would keep your distance from this person

The 2 I think of immediatley are the following:

Any kind of sexual overtures to a child under 18.
