They refer to fried eggs.

1. Sunny side up is a fried egg where the egg is NOT flipped and you still see the yolks. like two suns, hence sunny side up.
2. Over easy = flipped but yolk still runny
3. Over medium = flipped, yolk partially cooked, not runny but still orange-yellowish.
4. Over hard = flipped, yolk fully cooked, yellow.

For a sunny side up egg, you can have the yolks cooked easy, medium or hard.

When you fry eggs and you let them cook with the yellow yolk up... that is the sunny-side-up... if you want to turn them over , you cannot flip them because the yolk would break so you have to very delicately turn them over: that is over easy. Etc is more difficult LOL Hard boiled is when you cook the egg in its shell long enough time for the egg to be completely cooked inside... soft boiled is cooked a shorter time so that the yellow yolk is still a little liquid, poached is cooking the egg in salted water without the shell and scrambled is stiring the omelette while it's cooking, omelette is when you have beaten the egg and you let it cook in the pan with ot without additional ingredients...

I am a cook so this is easy.
over easy is when u cook one side just done, maybe one minute, then flip and cook on the other side about 30 seconds to 45 seconds. The yolk and white of the egg are both still runny.
over medium is when u do the same but cook slightly longer and the white is cooked and the yolk runny.
and then there is above that and in between;... over easy medium, medium hard , over hard, etc.
and sunny side up is simply cooking the egg on one side only and then serving.

* Sunny-side up: cooked on one side only; the top part, containing the yellow, usually stays slightly liquid.

* Basted: basically a sunny-side up in which oil is poured over the top rather than at the bottom of the pan.

* Steam-basted: a variation of basted in which water is added to produce steam.

* Over-easy: cooked on one side and then turned over for only a few seconds.

* Over-hard: cooked on one side and then turned over until both sides are evenly cooked.

You can also cook eggs by scrambling them. This is done prior to cooking, using a bowl and adding salt and pepper, herbs, and sometimes milk before placing the eggs on a frying pan. Basic scrambled eggs require you to keep stirring as the eggs cook, so the result is a slightly jellied mix. Scrambled eggs can be easily tuned into omelets by adding vegetables or cheese, and avoiding the constant stirring. The result is a tight mass with a bread-like consistency than can be easily rolled or put into sandwiches.

Another common way to cook eggs is to boil them. Boiled eggs can be hard-cooked or soft-cooked. The difference is basically the consistency of the yolk; in soft-cooked eggs, the yolk is still runny. Poaching is the action of cooking a broken egg, rather than one with the shell intact, in water. Eggs can also be baked, especially when made into omelets or frittatas, an Italian version of the omelet containing hearty fillings such as vegetables, large pieces of meat, mushrooms, and cheese.

There are many other ways to preparing eggs, such as microwaving, deep-frying, custards, and quiches. Eggs can also be used to make sauces and dressings, and to prepare all kinds of soufflés.

Over Medium Eggs

Over easy means that the eggs have been flipped to slightly cook the top side. Sunny side up means that the eggs have not been flipped at all.

Not quite chris..

Sunny Side Up ....Cooked only on the bottom....Yoke is very runny

Over Easy....Once Bottom has cooked, egg is flipped over for 5-6 seconds so the top cooks a little. Yoke is still runny but has a film over it. (This is the best IMO)

Over Medium.....Same as above with the egg flipped over for about 10 seconds. Yoke has cooked some but there is still some goo inside it.

Over Hard...Same as above but egg is flipped over for 15-20 seconds. The yoke is cooked through till hard.
