I'm having an upper endoscopic surgery done on Dec 21st.
I work in retail and have to talk alot. I hear that my throat and stomach will be really sore for awhile.

How long does it usually take to recover (to the point where I can talk for 8 hours without hurting)?
How long should I wait to go back to work??

Yes same as above, mind you I did not have the anesthetic either, was wide awake and able to see the monitor. The Surgeon got me to swallow the camera, then did his thing. Once he had finished he got the Nurse to flip me over so I could see the monitor and the inside of my stomach, tripe! He then took two biopsies and walked me through my inners. The only problem, once the tube was removed, one very large BELCH! I then returned to the ward walking and had my dinner, no problem. However if you have the anesthetic you will be groggy for a few hours. I did not have any sore throat, just embarrassed over the BELCH!

I had an endoscopy done about 18 months back...No surgery just for investigation. My throat was sore but nothing unbearable,it was just a bit 'scratchy'. Paracetamol and halls soothers did the trick :)
