Do you think I would get fired if I was a priest who didn't believe in God? Same thing.

Par for the course. If you don't subscribe to group think, you are banished. Check out the case of Dr. Guermo Gonzalez, a world renown astronomer at Iowa St. Univ.. He was denied tenure because he wrote a book, on his own time with his own funds, suggesting possible intelligent design. The evolution gestapo at work.

"In February, the movie Expelled will be released to the theaters that will expose some of the discrimination faced by other researchers (plus teachers) who don’t accept the evolution belief system (or have merely allowed evolution to be questioned in their professional setting, even though they may be evolutionists themselves). Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed is hosted by actor/economist/presidential speech writer Ben Stein. The Abraham affair probably won’t make it to the big screen at this late date in the film’s production, but in the movie's promotional efforts, no doubt this latest skirmish in the creation/ID/evolution wars will be highlighted. (See www.ExpelledTheMovie.com, and then send a note to the producers to urge them to look into the firing of a PhD scientist who went against the grain, questioned evolution, and was expelled from his position—and almost expelled from his adopted country—for daring to do so.)"

I can't see how you could teach biology without UNDERSTANDING the theory of evolution at some level.
If he/she understood it but did not believe it how did they show that disbelief? If they still taught it as a theory I can't see the problem. If they refused to teach it that is obviously creating difficulties for the school and the pupils.
As an Englishman in this forum, I am very surprised by the heat generated over the issue of evolution and wonder why. It surprises me when I have always admired American technology.

Um, is this the marine biologist?

The job description required "research from an evolutionary point of view"... it's not religious persecution, it's a breach of contract issue. He lied about his belief in creation to get the job.

It's justified.

SOULFUL KRIS- What do you mean someone cannot be a biologist and not believe in evolution. BIOLOGY- the study of life- and God gives life- so biology really is the study of creation. He should not be fired for his beliefs- that is totally against the constitution.

The info itself would not truthfully leave any room for debate. people who declare in any different case the two lack wisdom of the info, or wilfully refuse to renowned the obtrusive conclusions that such info factors to. for sure, between genuine biologists, there are none who're uneducated. The latter classification are notably uncommon between credible scientists besides. they might desire to motel to bringing up park rangers as sources, besides as in simple terms mendacity, because of the fact the certainty is that the medical community reaches their conclusions based on the info.

Next we'll be firing geologists for not believing in rocks or firing astronomers who don't believe in galaxies. How far down that slippery slope do we want to go? Shouldn't there be some tolerance for morons and crackpots in the snobbish scientific community? What do these scientists want? An ivory tower free from imbeciles?

He's a childish moron, how do you make it through college biology without learning evolution. Seriously, this guy belongs spewing fairy tales at some christian university. Oh that's right, he was hired by Jerry Falwell's Liberty University to teach creationism...should be an easy class, leave your brain at home.

He was let go for requesting not to work on evolutionary aspects of research, not for believing in creation. The research conducted at Woods Hole deals with evolutionary theories.

It would be kind of like asking the boss at McDonald's to excuse you from doing any food related work.

They were justified. You can't expect to hold a position at a prestigious institute of science if you're trying to use the bible as a source of scientific fact.

He was fired for not believing in the research he was supposed to be doing.

It's like someone being hired as a mechanic who says, "I'll do your engine work, but I really don't believe that explosions can be harnessed for work." Sorry, but that put great doubt on his automotive knowledge and ability to fix cars.
