You would think GERMANY with the horrible past it has, having (along with many in the world) allowed HITLER to MURDER millions of JEWS, GYPSIES, HOMOSEXUALS, and the millions of others from all the nations it invaded, that it would have learned something about RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE, among many things.

I know some of the stories about the "CHURCH of SCIENTOLOGY", and about the behavior of some of its most famous MEMBERS, but whether a religion or a cult, as long as they do not commit murder, rape, robbery, etc., they must be left alone. They have a right as much as the MILLIONS of Muslims making Germany their home, whom are there to live, work, and practice their RELIGION.

Germany is refusing to grant Scientology the status of a religion (and therefore tax-free status) because Scientology is not a religion; it is a business. You have to shell out thousands of dollars just to attain the next "level"; and Scientology is fighting tooth-and-nail because they don't want those thousands of ill-gotten dollars being taxed. Also, that "church" has commited fraud, harrassment, censure, and arguably murder. Germany has every right to question and to bar that organization.

Germany has banned other religions in the past. They are listed with France, Russia, and China as religiously intolerant by various religious watch groups.

The interesting thing about Scientology is that for being in 160 countries, everyone seems to be able to actually name the vicitms of it. One dead girl and one broke guy? Even if those are true when compared to any other religion for the last 20 years thats not much of a score.

If Germany bans Scientology then 6000 geramn scientologists get to claim asylum for religious persecution in countries like the US and Sweden.

The German Government does not regard Scientologists as a religion but as an organization with commerical interests.
Maybe exactly because of their past they are a bit more hestitant to believe that any group of people is harmless.
You could equally well argue that the scientologists try to persecute the German government... which does not endear them to that government.

BUT: there would be an easy solution. Take the payment of money for advancement out of scientology, and they probably will be much more accomodating.

There ought to nevertheless be Germans who might do it lower back in the event that they'd persuade themselves and adequate different human beings that it never occurred in the 1st place. The enormity of the Holocaust should be stored genuine in Germany to be certain that Nazism can not get primary customary help lower back between straight forward minded people who're swayed by skill of the alluring argument that "we are greater beneficial than different races" and, " if we at the instant are not solid, that is as a results of fact there are different communities that desire to tear us down." for the comparable reason, flying the swastika is criminal in the US yet unlawful there.

Germany isn't banning the practiceof Scientology, it's only banning the Church of Scientology, which is a commercial enterprise, not a church, from defrauding and exploiting people. People can still believe whatever they want.

You can't define a criminal enterprise as a religion and thereby obtain immunity from prosecution for criminal acts in any civilized country.

Even in the United States. Some of the time. Maybe.
