I am trying to make oatmeal cookies for the first time and the recipe says "rolled oats". What are they and where can I find them in the groccery store? By the oatmeal cereal or is it frozen, like biscuits?

I am so confused on what this is exactly. Any suggestions on making oatmeal cookies would be great!

Rolled oats are what come in the can from Quaker. They have 'quick oats', and 'rolled oats'. Most people don't realize that oats, without being rolled, are the shape and size of a grain of rice. So they roll them out to promote faster cooking and that's why when you see oats, they are a flat, oval shape.

Quick oats can be used for cookies too, they're just not as pretty. Personally, I prefer quick oats b/c they digest a little easier.

The rolled oats called for are the regular oatmeal found in the cereals section. Not the instant kind in little packets. One brand is Quaker and there are others.

By the oatmeal cereal - they come in a cannister. Pretty much "oatmeal" - rolled oats is just another name.

Good old Quaker, slow cook oats in the cereal aisle. NoT instant. Hint, use real butter not margerine. Yummy, when shall I be there for cookies?
