The charging methods for the 2 batteries are different, and in some cases using a NiCd charger (particularly one that is designed for fast charging) can damage a Li-ion battery, or possibly cause it to explode. Based on that I would say, don't do it.

If you can contact the technical assistance line (1-800 number) for the manufacturer of your phone, you could ask them specifically if that model cordless phone is compatible with Li-ion batteries. Perhaps their charging circuitry *would* work with a Li-ion battery.

Charging techniques and circuits are different for Li-ion and Ni-Cd batteries. Consult the supplier of the phone.
