Very thought provoking question!!!
First of all if I was considering becoming a surrogate I would want to talk to other surrogate mothers and families that have baby's by surrogate mothers and ask them lots of questions about these very topics. You know all the what if's I could think of. I would contact a lawyer to have a contract drawn up between me and the family I would be having a baby for.
IF I were to be a surrogate for close friends they would all ready know my thoughts and positions on abortions. Legally they could not force me to have an abortion...just like a father of a baby cannot force the mother to have an abortion. BUT it would get tricky after the birth because I'm not sure if legally the baby is mine (because I gave birth to it) and I could do whatever I wanted with the baby IE: keep it or put it up for adoption. Or if the baby is legally theirs because it came from their sperm and egg so therefore they would have to put it up for adoption or allow me to keep it. In the best scenerio they would want both babies since they are both biologically theirs :) Otherwise I would probably want to raise the child as my own.

Actually, this has already occurred in case law. In that case, the woman kept the baby and then sued the father for child support and won. I do not know if this occurred in a state that supports surrogate agreements or not. My state does not.
One of the reasons why this would be an issue include the fact that the parents are supposed to pay for all medical expenses of the surrogate.

A very intriguing question.
In general, surrogacy requires a written contract, for the simple reason of avoiding issues like this. One would hope that they'd be excited about BOTH pregnancies, and keep BOTH children.
Most certainly, if I were the surrogate in question, I would absolutely not have an abortion. If they didn't want the child (although I have trouble believing this, 'cause most people who would go to this extreme really want kids), I would have to discuss with them the options of me keeping the child, or for us all to give the child up for adoption to another childless couple.

Well, I personally could not have an abortion. It simply isn't for me even if it wasn't my biological child. I would probably tell them that I was having there baby and that it is a great blessing to have two new babies. But if they still did not want the baby I would tell them they needed to give the baby up for adoption because I wasn't having an abortion. Plenty of people want newborns.

I would just give the baby up for adoption. But then again, this is one of the reasons I'll never become a surrogate.

thats too bad for them you carry it to term and then they have 2 babies!
how could someone choose between 2 pregnancies i do hope this hasnt really happened and is just a hypothetical.

That's just wrong. Asking you to do that is just stupid. They came to you, and you agree'd to do something for them, why would you even consider it is beyond me. If you don't want the child out it up for adoption. Sounds like they are really good friends...

sounds to me like your going to need a lawyer!!!!what should happen is when the baby your carrying is born they take it and when their baby is born they keep it to they are both their children why wouldn't they want it????what you can also do is you could talk to your friends and see how they feel about you keeping the baby yourself.

This is a tough one. You would probably have to talk to a lawyer about this.
