I do not drink at all. I have drank in the past and it caused me alot of problems ~ ALOT of problems! I am starting to get involved with this man who drinks "shots of vodka with a beer-back". It seems like he would take a shot every half-hour or so. This bothers me alot. My philosophy has always been, "I don't care who drinks, as long as I DON'T!". However, I'm not sure if this will work out.

To be honest it's going to be a *****. You said liquor caused you problems..... Well you are putting yourself in a position to have the problems find you again. When one quits drinking where is the last place they should hang out? A bar. Also, since he is a drinker you may end up finding yourself being angry because of his decisions to go have one. Also keep in mind that you will be sober when he is drunk sometimes. Even if he is a "funny drunk" you may find yourself annoyed.

Who knows though. I drink and my ex didn't and even though I am not an alcoholic, it made things tough on us especially at festive events such as weddings etc.

Like you I am also tee total because of some bad drinking experiences, very bad! I always said to myself going out with a social drinker would be ok but no heavy drinkers or potential alchies (which it sounds like your man could be). I wouldn't get involved personally. x

I would be afraid to get involved with someone who drinks like that and if you have had problems in the past you definitely do not need to get involved with someone who does cause the temptation would always be there.

It works as long as neither one cares about the other's drinking habits. If it bothers you when he is drunk or if it bothers him that you won't have a drink with him, then you may have a problem. I drink, but my boyfriend won't, so we just came to the mutual agreement that I can do what I want as long as I don't try to make him drink with me or be around drunk people.

Yes it can. I drink quite a bit and my wife doesn't at all. Works just fine because I'm not obnoxious and don't shirk my other responsibilities and she doesn't get on my case about drinking. Sounds to me though that you already have a problem with it. Unless you're sure you can become completely fine with him drinking or he can stop drinking - you'd better end it now.

I found from my own problems that it will not work. Not because of him or her but becuase you had a prior problem and you think that everyone else has that same problem. He might be just having a blast and you are not because of the past drama you have went through! dont give up yet though just talk it out and tell him or her your concerns, if not then i will tip one back for you j/k.

you are already having doubts... i have friends that don't drink and that's fine, and we even still go to the bar together sometimes, but they do get annoyed from time to time when everyone is drunk around them and they're not.

If one of you is a masochist. It's hard to be sober and be around people who get drunk. It winds up being sad. Who wants to be with someone they feel sorry for? Even if they don't appear drunk, you have to wonder what demons they are trying to drown.
