Im re-doing a part of my R.S coursework and I have to talk through all the features in a mosque. I only need to write about mortuaries but i don't know what to write about them. I've looked through text-books and had a look on the internet but i can't find anything.

All i have so far is, ' The mosque has a mortuary on-site to wash and prepare bodies for a quick funeral.'

Any input on the matter would be appreciated, thank-you!

Mortuary (Morgue)

This is a facility for the washing and storing of the deceased. By Islamic law, the body of one who has recently passed away must be buried within 24 hours. Most bodies are washed, stored and prepared by the local Muslim funeral parlour before being brought to the mosque for services. However, sometimes it is preferred by close relatives that the mosque take the responsibility of pre-burial preparations. The mosque caters for the washing of bodies and for their cold storage after which the mosque provides an Islamic funeral prayer service for the family, friends and relatives of the deceased.

Also, in some cases, a mortuary and a place to wash remains are included in a mosque and a ritual for the deceased could be held.

I hope that helped some.

Muslims don't believe in making money for washing death bodies to prepare them for funeral.

It is a noble duty and community's good men and women always do it free for the reward from God. Family members of the deceased never have to do any thing except paying for the plot of grave in America and Europe.

In Muslim countries lands for graveyards in every city are allocated by the government. Grave plots are absolutely free and cost of burrying a death is only to buy unsticed material to wrap the body in.

Muslims do not believe in expensive caskets, make up and new suits for death body. They have kept it simple and least expensive so family is not burdend with monetary burden in addition to the sadness they face for the death.

Ummm...not really...I haven't been to ANY mosque that has that....It is more or less done in the cemetary complex..

I'm sure you could find plenty of other resources by writing in google..."mosque" or features of a mosque. Or just go to the mosque bit in wikipedia.
