I don't think it's any different than white people wanting to look tan.

However, I don't like tanning OR skin bleaching .... Every skin color is beautiful! In a country that claims to celebrate diversity, why do so many people want to change their skintone so they can look like someone else? If all the pale people start tanning and the dark people start bleaching, will we all just end up the same shade of medium brown? That would be rather boring, don't you think? ;)

I am super pale but I refuse to tan even though so many people tell me I should ... I want to help show the world you can be beautiful no matter what color you are -- God created me this color and I'm going to stay this way! :) Likewise, I would encourage you to embrace your beautiful dark skintone!

Ultimately though, only you know whether you are truly insecure.... that's a question I can't answer for you!

God made you with beautiful dark skin so you should be proud of it. Don't let yourself be brainwashed into thinking that lighter skin is better. There is no better or worse coloured skin. I'd say the same to a pale skin white person who wants to be darker. If God made you pale, then don't bother lying out in the sun burning your skin and risking skin cancer.

i am also the same complexion... be happy with who you are inside and out... my boyfriend who happens to be white... loves my skin!!! he loves everything that is black about me... my hair, skin, and body and etc. u are falling into what is considered the standard of beauty. blonde and blue eyes is not the only thing that can be pretty. there are beautiful people in every shape size and color. dont be brainwashed by the media, it has gone on way too long and needs to change! be smart. while your trying to be lighter there are people who are trying to be darker!!!! love what u have! u need a self image change... also i hope u havent dyed your hair blonde either!

EDIT: essentially, wanting to be lighter is wanting to look more white!

Are you crazy? I have fair skin and I can't stand it. I wish I was darker. I sit in the sun for hours trying to get a good tan, but it's only temporary. I think the most attractive people are those with a dark complexion. Beyonce, Halle Barry, Mario Lopez, etc.

It could just be a phase you're going through, I used to be obsessed with fake tan and now I want to look as pale as possible! But don't bleach your skin, recent reseach has shown that it can cause cancer.

It could be perceived that way.
It is usually thought, by others, that you might want lighter skin, because you are not comftorable with the skin you're in.

So... ask yourself, search deep & find out WHY you REALLY want lighter skin.

every one has his/her own needs and wants.. if it's meant for the betterment of self esteem or correction of uneven skin tone (which are BOTH the objectives of skin lightening and skin tanning), then there's nothing wrong with that, and it should be respected..

ignore what other people might say about what you need or want, because it is you who'll feel better about it.. life is short, whatever makes you happy, go for it...

Your avatar doesn't look "fair skinned." Why would you want different color skin? Embrace it. Get a tan! It always makes me feel good about my skin. (I know I know, wrinkles... I only do it rarely) ;)

The people who love you and care about you don't care what color skin you have.

The rest of the people out there don't matter.

Be happy with yourself. WE are happy with you just the way you are:

BEAUTIFUL
