No offense intended but here is my perspective as a guy that has been seriously involved in the martial arts for over 45 years and an instructor of it for over 39 years. Music and martial arts do not go together as far as I'm concerned. If you were doing Ballet then I could understand using music. but to use music in any demonstration seems like a circus act, not something serious. The martial arts are (or at least the martial arts I was taught) is about self-defense in a life threatening situation. It is not about showing off, fancy impractical athletics, or breaking boards. Not contemporary but Pat Benatar's Fire and Ice.
This tune been used in many Chinese movie's A Man Should Be of Self-Help. There is a Jackie Chan and George Lam version. I believe the latter was used in the Once Upon a Time in China.

Well, if you're doing a kata that's kind of slow, try the theme from "Kung-Fu: The Legend Continues".

If you're doing a fast kata, just about any of the songs from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers soundtrack.
That show always had great songs during fight scenes ("We Need a Hero", "Combat", "I Will Win" "Go Green Ranger, Go" ..those are only a few of them--I don't remember the names of the rest)

Try the music from ROCKY it does have a beat and is recognizable. It is the rhythm of the music that makes Martial arts work best. Everything in the arts has to do with timing and fluidity.

I think that's all up to what you like. I personally don't practice martial arts, but my brother does, and I know he usually uses songs from metal bands like Soilwork.
