I have a small question. I am a recent convert into the Catholic faith! I was walking with my Girlfriend holding here hand in the church and we passed infront of the Blessed Sacrament we both did our reverence but I didn't let go of her hand to do the sign of the cross. I used my left hand, she got really mad at me which I sorta see why cause it's the left hand but I was thinking is it really that bad is there any Cannon Law that states what hand to use? If so where is it in the Cathequesis.

It doesn't mention it anywhere in the Bible to make the sign of the Cross it is mentioned in the "Church rule book" (for lack of better words).

It says to God this is my girlfriend and I love her and thank you for putting her in my path, but I guess your right I should've let her hand go for a bit and properly geneflucted. Although everyone has diferent ways of showing respect I should've shown respect in the matter that I always do and kneld down and use my right hand to make the sign of the cross.

You can use either hand.

Most right handed people use their right hand and most left handed people use their left hand.

If you are holding the hand of your girlfriend then I see no problem in using your left hand.

You were showing proper respect for the true presence of Jesus Christ in the tabernacle.

With love in Christ.

Nope, it's the right hand. They teach you before you get communion. But here is for the fun part. Catholicism doesn't really have a set of rules but a spiritual leader who sets those rules. Yes, the Pope has higher authority than the Bible. And processes are quite important and symbolic. Nothing is written, it's kind of assumed and taught.

Anyways, use the right hand when in doubt. And don't hold your girlfriend's hand when you are showing repect to Jesus or God.

The stuff you need to know: Know Jesus's life and celebrate the holidays. And read lots of Psalms. Everything else is kind of avoided.

I don't know that it is in the Catechism, but there is something to be said about it. I'm not saying you have committed some terrible offense, but what does it say when you can't let go of your girlfriends hand for a moment and genuflect properly to Jesus? Just my opinion.

It's the right hand. But, I don't think she should have grown angry with you. You're still learning and you didn't know, don't worry. Make sure to point that out to her the next time she gets all fussy with you for not knowing one of Catholicism's billion little rules.

I was raised Catholic and I'm left handed. Growing up my Dad would scold me for using my left to make the sign of the Cross. The pastor's reaction was always "at least she does it". I think it doesn't matter as much as it used to.

no I think she was upset more in the fact that you should have used your right hand and possibly old fashioned in the respect that this is gods house which is not a place for affection, but no it is not some terrible and evil sin. its not even a minor sin.

welcome to my faith friend

It doesn't really matter which hand you use. Basically, you're girlfriend and you have some crazy beliefs and it's your job to conform to your girlfriend's crazy beliefs (if you want her to stick around).
