Recently I was sitting in my car at a grocery store. I have a bumper sticker on the back of my car expressing my religion. It does not demean any religion or anyone in any way. It is a very positive sticker. Yet the religion it expresses is somewhat unpopular with other religions.

So anyway this old man walks up to my car, he didn't know I was in it, he reads it and then spits on it.

What would you do in this situation?

I thought about and I should have gotten out my car and called him anti-American since he does not respect the first amendment.

To Debra: He was not expressing his first amendment rights legally because technically spitting on my bumper sticker is defacing private property.

Go to the car wash and forget about it.

Like I told another person in here: Understand that he reacted from his own causes and conditions, which had your bumper sticker as a motive for his ego to be "upset" and he reacted without kindness. His spit on your car can do no real damage right? You can clean it up and happily be on your way right? It's likely that argument or discussion with such a person isn't necessarily going to change his mind, let alone in a parking lot encounter, so be at peace in your own mind, and have patience.

Being a girl, as I think you are, I would never suggest that you leave the safety of your car to confront a crazy man who spits on your car.....I don't think it was right, but having a confrontation with anyone who is already kinda kooky is a bit dangerous in my opinion. If your statement could in fact change his mind, then sure, but you know that it would have just led to more hostility and anger on his part.

When you say, "Hi I am (fill in the blank), you invite others to exercises their free speech. I find spitting on someones car probably goes across that line, but you do see the principle is not one of free speech.

scream out your window, "I love you too!! HAVE A NICE DAY!!!"

then he'll feel like an a$$ for sure

but if youre going to bring the 1st amendment into this, he has the right to his opinion on the matter... its just not a very nice way of expressing it

Don't blame him. He is an old man. I think he does not know his right from his lift.

Bless him and turn the other cheek, which is easier said than done. It is his own problem and has nothing to do with you.
