I really want to use my favorite pb cookie recipe for my Christmas gift baskets this year but was hoping to give them some Christmas color - if I added red or green food coloring would they come out or would they just be an ugly color? Thanks

Well yes it would come out fairly good. Why don't you make your cookies with peanut butter M&M's. They come in Christmas colors now. You could also use tinted frosting and frost them lightly just to add the colors of Christmas.

I don't think you would be happy with the colour. PB cookies are naturally quite brown, due to the colour of peanut butter and especially if you make them with brown sugar. They would turn out pretty muddy. Why don't you try taking a small amount of dough, adding a tiny amount of colouring (use a tootpick to get a small amount of colour) and then baking it and see what happens. Then if you don't like it, you haven't ruined the whole batch.

Considering what the cookie's color would normally be, it maybe better to either do a frosting or sprinkles, I don't think the color would mix well.
