I've been shunned at work for ratting on a lazy coworker. She has since got suspended for being verbally abusive with the boss. It is union shop, and she got her job back. Now, other coworkers are complaining about how hard it is to do all the work around her. Ooooooh really?

Now they come up to me and want me to listen as they complain????? NOT! I took action right or wrong, and they have nowhere to vent. What would you say or do?

You could politely tell them that you've already had your turn as the sacrificial lamb - you've done your part - it's their turn to do something now.

Also, you might want to speak with your union rep as to what to do and how far you can go without catching too much flak.

First thing is relax. Management and union know that not all workers are created equal. So should you.

Your level of work production is yours and yours alone, and lets face it, the others will compare to you in different ways.

The action you took will be interpreted by everybody as " She will do this to us someday if she does it to the one who is at the bottom of the production quota scale."

What if there will one day be 7 new hires, all better and faster than you, and you will be the slowest? They will call you "lazy" too.

This I-am-better-than-you game is not an easy game to play.
If you have to preach anything, it has to be how can we coax (support) this slow one so she can speed up to par (whatever the par is at the moment)

Tell them that if they really want to do something, they can take the same route you did and "rat" her out. However, if they just want to complain, your not interested.

Tell them that you don't want to hear it. You've put your complaint in and that's all anyone can do. Tell them they either need to speak to your co-worker, or to the boss. There is nothing more that you can do about it.

I wouldn't say anything, its seems you are a nosey busy body and I would avoid you at all costs. So keep being stuck up and overbearing and soon they will be saying I told you so, when you have no friends.

I don't say anything to them. Your co-workers should have trusted your judgment from the beginning.

Sometimes, silence speaks louder.
