I cannot believe that a biology professor does not believe in evolution. At the same time why he was willing to to research in the field of science, which required a belief in evolutionary theory? If his belief came in the way of his research work, he should have quit the job. It looks like he was waiting to be fired so that he can make money without doing work.

"If I had a job researching things that fall down, would I have to accept gravity as a fact?'
If you job was to research gravity (things that fall down), then I would hope you would keep an open mind about other possibilities. Otherwise, you aren't being scientifically honest and are limiting the chances that you discover anything worthwhile.
If I was researching evolution, I would want people who both believe and don't believe it. That way you get an unbaised sample set of data because people are going to be researching all possibilities, not just what you currently think is the correct theory.
What is often thought to be scientifically correct at one time has historically been proven false eventually. The Earth revolving around the sun. The Earth being flat. Classic physics. The evolution of the atomic model. I could go on. You are censoring yourself scientifically by firing someone who doesn't agree with your ideas.

If you had a job researching things that fall down, it is almost self evident in the question that you would have been trained as a scientist--so yes I would suspect you would have an axiomatic belief in gravity. If your job utilized evolutionary theory--I would likewise suspect you had to believe in it---otherwise would make as much sense as an atheist wanting the job of pope. An atheist could do the "job" of pope and not believe--but why would he want to?

"Abraham, who was dismissed eight months after he was hired, said he was willing to do research using evolutionary concepts but that he had been required to accept Darwin's theory of evolution as scientific fact or lose his job."
He was willing to do the job...just not accept evolution as fact. To take your example as a deli worker...you would be fired unless you said that it is a fact that all humans should eat meat. Your analogy is more of a justification for him being wrongly fired than justification for him being fired. You are exactly like him...don't believe or practice in eating meat...but you slice meat all day. He doesn't believe in evolution as fact, but uses "evolutionary concepts" to do his work.
I think you have some holes in your argument.

Job research on gravity.Obviously the evidence is clear.
A practicing vegan would probably not work in a deli or meat department for obvious reasons.
And most people that utilize evolution believes in it or they would not be there.
Of course we are free to choose to believe what we want about evolution.

wow, yea, if youre going to be doing research on things which are based on evolutionary theory, then you should at the very least not believe those things to be wrong in the eyes of God. seems like this guy could have picked a better career...

I worked in a metaphysical rock shop for 2 years and I didn't believe in "the healing power of stones."
For a while I was okay with it, but eventually I developed odd personality habits and feelings of guilt from espousing things that I believed to be lies on a daily basis.
I note that certain personality types are more suited to this, as there that happily choose phone solicitation and "help" call centers as their main employment. They tend to tell more blatant lies and boast more than average and don't care that others think poorly of them for doing so.

If it did not meet my expectations and it differed from my beliefs.. I would do the work but question its truth. Work is work. You go to work, clock in and do your job as described by the employer. When you leave work, you do just that, leave the work at the job site, the rest of your time is yours. If it meant having to suscribe to the thoery of evolution, I would tell them to shove it and go someplace else. Darwins thoery is unsubstaniated and always will be. I say, there is scientific fact that proves it to be just plain wrong. Even Darwin himself could not explain the creation of life. Life cannot create itself. If it could and the thoery of evolution was credible, then life would still be creating itself and would be continously evolving. Neither of those two things are happenning and never will happen because as I said..life cannot create itself. Dead lifless matter cannot have intelligence.. it takes intelligence for cells to form and replicate themselves in to some sort of living thing.. dead chemicals have no life and it has been scientifically proven that they cannot just mix together and come alive. LIFE CANNOT CREATE ITSELF and that is proof enough that the thoery of evolution is a false thoery.. the short answer to your question is no.. you do not have to believe in the product..just do your job as described and get paid.. the rest is up to you..

He doesn't have to believe in evolution but the article said he refused to work on the evolutionary aspects of his job. He should do that much at least.

No, not even close. Imagine working for the deli and doing a good job for years, and then being fired simply because your boss finds out that you are a vegetarian.
