The answer is NO if you just go for travelling.

You need a VISA to enter mainland China. Even Hong Kong and Macau are officially a part of China, but they are special region with a different policy. You can enter HK and Macau to stay at least 30 days without a VISA.

(well... I am from Macau, and my wife is a US citizen.)

Generally the answer is no; nationals from the US are allocated a 30 day visa free stay in Macau upon arrival. European and Japanese nationals are allowed 90 days visa free stay, and UK nationals six months. As with most countries you will need six months validity on your passport. If you intend on doing business in Macau, as an increasing number of people are, you will need to apply for a business visa at your nearest Chinese consulate

Depends on what country you are from. You can use the website below. enter your nationality, enter that you are an alien redident of the U.S., enter your destination and click for the info. It will tell you if you need a visa for Macau or not.

If you have a US passport, you can just enter the country as a guest.
