If I refrain from acting in a situation where I clearly have the power to intervene, I bear moral responsibility for the undesirable result.
If I see an unattended toddler about to walk into a busy street, I am morally responsible if I fail to grab his hand and stop him getting splattered. My inaction is an endorsement of what could happen...namely, the kid getting hit by a taxi.
An omnipotent, omniscient being who willfully stays his hand in the face of human suffering countenances that suffering by his inaction.
Make it simpler.
If you have a lunchbox full of food and there's a kid who's outright STARVING, looking at you weakly, with barely the strength to plead with you...aren't you culpable if you don't give him half of your PB&J?

God is in control, he can change the situation if he wanted to. However he has designed this world to be affected by the choices that people make, so he has in a way given some control away, he could change it if he wanted. It is true to say that God has allowed children to starve and we can wonder why but it all comes down to the fact that we can change the situation, it's not like God has kept us from doing anything about it. In fact God is using christian ministries to help feed them. Maybe we can't answer why God has allowed this but what I do know is that he uses it for good, like helping people become better persons by caring about others and even using the ministries to help lead those kids to him. I have also pointed out in other answers that atheists focus too much on this life, in their world view this life is all that matters and so they see the problems of this world as evidence against God, but they don't understand that this life means very little in the overall plan of God's and that it's problems are designed to teach us and help us grow and understand things about God and his plan for us. There are many problems in this world and God has ALLOWED for them but they are temporary and God has promised us that there will be a day were there will be no more sadness and pain. This is what the atheist fails to recognize about God's plan and it is why they can't see evidence of him in this world, they focus too much on what this life offers.

For something to be Gods providence is not the same as it being his fault. God allows some things to go on, he has reasons that we do not understand, he was there when time began, I was not.
Hope this helps, just a little.
Christians believe that Gods sovereignty was challenged in the garden. If God stepped in to fix things, then we will never see whether God is needed by man or not.

It isn't his fault we have to live the best we can even if we are starving, people have to help us out but when resources in a country aren't enough you can't expect God to be blamed. He created us and can make anything happen but you can't blame him because there are starving children in Africa in fact you can use that to help out your fellow man.

We are in control of our actions, which have caused all these tragic events.
"God is in control" simply implies that He will comfort you by giving you the future that He planned for you when you are in a time of need and call upon Him.
God has helped many Children in africa- for example, He inspired many global aid missions including World Vision.

I get tired of people always trying to blame God for anything 'bad' in the world. You received a lot of good answers with many valid points to consider. Life is life; and yes, we have to do what we can as human beings to correct the bad we see. And many of us do. It is true with the admission of sin into the world, admission of tragedies came with it. Can you imagine if every being on this earth would bow as one and pray to our one true God? It would be utopia on earth. Satan is real, whether many admit it or not, and he does love to hear "It's God' fault." Just try for one year to blame satan instead. Rebuke him, tell him you hate him for what is going on in the world and that you stand beside Jesus. Resist the devil and he WILL flee from you. We must open our hearts to the truth and not give satan power.
Many can scoff and sneer all they want; the truth is plain to see when you stop, think, pray, and ask. Have a blessed Merry Christmas.

God gave Man Free Will. That means He gave some measure of control to us; the choice to choose good or evil. So if we choose evil, it's not His fault. He didn't want to create robots.

Let me hang my atheist head in shame of those of you who think or have the audacity to think that the peoples of the third world are at fault. I am ashamed of such self righteousness and know that none of you have seen the poverty and disease of those countries. You live in some perfect little world where everything is just lovely, admiring some preacher who tells you that you are unworthy of living. I suggest to you all to take a trip to those countries and see how they give all they can to their almighty churches and men of the cloth who lie and cheat them out of life in general. To see the churches there adorned in solid gold while the peasants live in houses that you would not want your dog to live in. How dare your ignorance of poverty and life. Grow up!

Okay, it's God's fault, in that He gave evil men free will to hold food hostage so they can get rich while the poor die of starvation. But it's not in God's nature to be a rapist. He will not force His love on anyone. If you wish to fault Him for this, go ahead. But don't blame ME when you have to answer for your words and actions.

Let's put this in perspective...
If God prevented all natural disasters, all tragedies, wars, killings, injustice and pain in this world, if he fixed everything that man caused (i.e. global warming, wars, genocides...), does he really allow free well? Would people ever learn to fear God? Would people ever even think that he is there? Again your question is filled with self pride and sense of entitlement. All you are entitled is His mercy and a chance to see His glory and love. Besides, look what He did for you... For all the pain and suffering human being have causes in this world, he gave His only son to save you from your own sins.
