As an average, in San Antonio, for example, medical assistants will start around $7.50 - 7.90 an hour the average salary for an experienced CMA in San Antonio is $10.00 - 10.50 an hour and the high range (80th percentile and above) for CMAs in the city (this is for MAs that are certified, have significant experience and usually perform additional tasks in the office, such as coding, or scheduling.) the expected salary is around $14.00 - $15.00 per hour.

There are 20 med Asst schools in the San Antonio Metropolitan Service Area, and in the past 2 weeks there have been 15 advertised positions for medical assistants.

Also there is a difference in the tasks performed by, and the education for a nursing assistant and a medical assistant.

NAs are trained to work assisting nurses and patients in hospitals, nursing homes and home health settings.

MAs are primarily prained to assist Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and PAs in processing patients in ambulatory care settings.

You don't have to offer high salaries if the supply is high and the demand is low. The highest demand in Texas is for Nursing Assistants in Nursing Homes and Home Health settings.
