Can anybody give me some excersies that you can do with your subject to loosen them up or make them more comfortabl infront of the camera... Scenario; I was talking pictures (nude) once of a friend of mine and she was relly nervous , I became really nervous as well (hot naked girl), im not a profesinoal, and I became really frustrated because I felt as soon as she took her cloths off she became really tense, i thaught that being the photog it was my responsability to lighten the mood or make her feel comfortable... anyways the pictures turned out horrible, so im wondering what other people do??? I let her take some pics of me, so the camera didnt feel so forieng and we made animal noises, like if you were a barn animal what noise would you make... what are some excersises that you do with your subjects???

First exercises are for kids. Adults that agree to work with each other, should be adult enough to understand the consequences of the agreement.

IF your just shooting for fun, education, experience, and you rnud model is nervous, and not giving you what you want, use a sheer fabric for her to hold onto. I have used crepe and mesh of different types, 6-10 feet long, 2 feet wide, that she can use as a prop, a cover, wrapped clothing, etc....

I NEVER allow alcohol on the set/location. It can lead to anything from "this clowns trying to get me drunk", to a sloppy model that cant focus on the job/shoot. But thats just me. If I am using using wine glasses or something for props, I fill them with juice and tonic water to get the look of wine.

You shouldnt do anything to make the model nervous, but if someone agrees to posing/modeling for you, they have the responsibility of finding their own comfort zone. You cant be responsible for others.

For nervous nudes...
1) Remain professional at all times.
2) Take some practice shots to warm up. With digital, it's easy to show the model the shots, which helps to build confidence.
3) Lots of direction and praise--"Good!" "Beautiful!" "Good pose!" "Looking great! Hold that!" "move your chin down. Move your arm to the left a little." This helps to reinforce the professional aspect of the shoot and ease your own nerves, as well as that of the model.
4) always use professional language, not gutter talk or slang, especially when referring to body parts.
5) No touching of model without permission.

No alcohol or drugs. Always get a model release. The best way to make it less tense is to be absolutely professional.

Mere is right on the button with his answer.
I would add that if this is the persons first time to shoot in the nude. Sometimes doing shadow shots behind an opaque screen adds to the comfort zone as well, getting them in that comfort zone with you the photographer and themselves.
Sometimes a female in the room helps as well with the comfort zone.
You are asking the person to become vulnerable to the camera's lens, patience, practice and time will help.
But never ever ever mess up or as stated your career would be over before it started.
Good luck

#1 rule: Never watch a model take their clothes on and off.

#2 rule: Be a pro. Do not touch, control your libido, and do not stare at body parts.

I always have a bottle of wine, a coffee maker, a robe and music playing. Vary the music to get the mood you are looking for. The robe is handy for breaks and between takes.

Do it wrong and you may never work again. Word gets around with models.
