Ok I am a 29 year old expat who has moved to Romania with my family for work. Since I was already here and not needing to work I decided to volunteer with 2 local groups. I am beyond shocked. What is wrong with the people! I have yet to meet more than a handful that I respect. Most of the are big-headed, egotistical, controlling and rude. I have not seen any Christ-like traits in hardly any of them infact I see even more clearly why people tend to hate Christians. I need advice because I truly have a passion for this work but these people are beyond words. How can I best deal with thse horrible people without openly declaring war?

You need to stay strong in your faith and your mission. When I was 19, I went to England to spend a year on a Christian Youth Exchange program. The people were horrible. They left me without any support and were doing so many un-Christian things on the program that it was truly sad. I ended up coming home after less than 2 months. I struggled with my decision, but I also know there was a reason I was there. It took me a few years to fully understand that reason and what God's plan was for me, but it was worth those agonizing weeks for what I learned about myself and more importantly, my faith.

Stay strong and pray. Faith will get you through this. I promise.

This situation reminds me of the line from the Godfather, " it was Barzini all along ". For months we heard Rosie O' Donnell attacking Star for no reason at all. Barbara Walters simply sat back after hiring Rosie and said nothing. Now it is obvious Barbara Walters; like a dog from hell , was behind the whole thing to hound Star Jones off the show. Walters states ABC research showed people were dissatisfied with Star's explanation of her dramatic weight loss and public wedding. Are you kidding me ? Has Barbara Walters ever been honest about her multiple cosmetic surgeries? Is Star the only celebrity to have a highly publicize wedding were photos of it were sold. That BS explanation shows what she thinks of her audience. Star lost weight and got married and they can't deal with it. Barbara Walters also screwed Lucy Ling back in the day and I vaguely remember Debbie Matanapolis, that 4Xbrbe mentioned ( not really a View fan ).

I think the Europeans in general do not like Americans. Americans are usually arrogant and have little if any manners. They promote themselves as the true believers of a true faith and act in a manner that is self righteous and belittling to others. The faith based usually do it for the kudos they will or think they will be receiving in some supernatural heaven, you do it because you want to. There is nothing that any one needs to do to receive kudos, do it for the love of doing it and make that a point.

There is nothing that a christian or any other faith can do that a non believer can not do. The difference is the non believer does it for the sake of humanity nothing more or less.

Often times the wrong people go into the work simply for a paycheck. Can that be their case?
Ask them once in a while about Christ's command concerning love. Not in an accusatory way, but in such a way that they may begin to examine themselves.

Start looking at international aid organizations rather than faith based aid organizations. If it makes you this miserable you can't really help the people who truly need it. Go online and see if Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch or other organizations like these have volunteer work in your area.

You are 29 years old and need advice on how to deal with people? What you just described is probably 90% of what everyone thinks they deal with at the workplace. It is ignorant of you to attribute their behavior to them being Christian in the first place. How about this...if you have a passion for the work...do the work and don't worry about the people.

I am sorry you are having this issue. There are humble Christians, but mostly they stay low. The fundies have taken over the church & are very misguided on many issues. Maybe you just need to stay away from the missionaries, many, but not all, want to convert by pressure.

"Everywhere the New Testament sees a great conflict between the forces of God and of good, on the one hand, and those of evil led by Satan, on the other. This is not the conception of one writer or another, but is common ground. . . . The witness of the New Testament then is clear. Satan is a malignant reality, always hostile to God and to God's people."

Trust God, love God. Take extra time in His word and trust what God said. Through His Spirit He will guide you to do what He would have you do.

Matthew 10
19 "But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you."

Not that you will be arrested! But that you will be given the words to say.
