Because we live in a world where secular non-religious law is taken to be more meaningful than religious law. Thus, the various religions that would allow such a thing, cannot actively endorse it from a legal standpoint, nor would most countries acknowledge those extra marriages. Yet another reason why we of ALL religions need to band together and force the governments to stay OUT of religious matters or any type, and for any reason. If it is in any way connected with something religious, NO governmental agency shoudl be allowed to have ANY say in it what so ever and until we come together and and find representatives that will make that possible....NO religious person will have the freedom to follow their religion as rightly as they should.

Of course we all know what the REAL punishment for bigamy is...two mothers-in-law.

You can have as many wives as you can get and support. Just do not under current law expect the relationships to be legalized. Also, I would advise keeping a low profile. No point ending up in prison as a polygamist. Oh. And make sure that your..uh.. many, many sexual partners are of age.
