Bodies are usually cremated without any container at all. The crematory made a mistake with my sister, and cremated the coffin too. It made the ashes to bulky for the urn we'd gotten for her. What's left of her is in a cardboard box now.

Most crematories require the use of a cremation container, whether it is a casket made specifically for cremation or a cardboard box, most must be in some kind of container. And the first answer that says people aren't cremated in fancy wood boxes or caskets is incorrect, I had a family who purchased a solid cherry casket and then cremated it, that is what they wanted. Many people purchase wood caskets that are made specifically for cremation, they use them for the viewing and then cremate them. It is not at all uncommon to cremate a casket. Some crematories even allow steel caskets to be cremated.

During cremation, there is a container box, usually made from cardboard, that the body is placed in to be cremated. They don't use wooden boxes or fancy coffins to cremate a person in. You can choose to bury the ashes in a coffin if you want.

some do that, plus paupers are not in special caskets
now many people are too fat to fit in the creamatoriums and have to be jammed in or otherwise "made to fit" in ways most relatives would consider unpleasant
i definitely dont want that done to me!
