Because the health care industry in the US is based on profit, not care. Patients can sue doctors for malpractice which raises insurance rates. Some people skip out on their bills which makes others have to pay for it. Overall I'd say it's screwed up.

Because healthcare in this country is no longer about the patient, it's all about making a buck. If you think human life is so important in this country I suggest you try getting treatment without insurance...it will open your eyes to the fact that the almighty dollar is God in this country, not human life.

we in Canada get screwed over with taxes on EVERYTHING! We pay taxes on goods, we pay taxes if we make to much money etc...but at the end of the day I would rather pay the taxes and have free health care then be stuck with none. It's crazy how your system works down there....

They overcharge because they can, the government lets them get away with it. Encourages it, even.

Malpractice suits aren't helping any - the docs pay more for insurance, so in turn, you pay more.
