Have you ever noticed that people lose 1 or both shoes when they are in an accident even if they are boots or sneakers and they are tied? I've seen accidents where boots/sneakers still tied are no where near the person...why does that happen?

The shoes are not tied tight enough and the forces involved in an accident will "fling" the shoes off of the victim. They may not be loose though, just not tied tight enough to prevent loosing them in an accident. It may be that the average person could not stand to have their laces as tight as they need to be to prevent losing their shoes in an accident. The shoes strings can stretch significantly when under extreme force and in effect "loosen" causing the shoe to slip off the foot. High top boots are aided by their weight and eventual momentum caused by the accident.

The physical forces involved in even a relatively low impact can be tremendous.

Just imaging if you were running along the grass, as FAST as your legs can carry you, and you were to run straight into a tree. The impact would be pretty hard, wouldn't it? It could be hard enough to knock you teeth out break a limb, and, maybe even break your neck. All this would happen at a speed of, maybe, ten or fifteen miles per hour.

Increase that speed to twenty-five, forty, or sixty miles per hour, and you can, just imagine the increase of an impact's force. Such forces can cause brittle foot bones to shatter like so many bits of glass. Between the impact of two or more vehicles, the resultant spinning and/or tumbling, and the forces can be unimaginably high and complex.

If flesh can be stripped off of bone, a foot slipping out of a sneaker is a pretty easy, straightforward trick.
