Freemasonry is a social fraternity that studies morality through ritual, symbol and allegory; its main tenets are faith, hope and charity.
Overall they are the good guys; there are bad freemasons, but that can be said about every organization.
to some other responses:
* freemasonry prohibits converting the means of refreshment into excess (i.e. getting drunk)
* Emerald Knight --- to become a mason you need to be male, 21 (18 in some cases) and have a belief in a supreme being; contact your local lodge, they will help you; contact me if you need help finding a local lodge
* You need to double check your math on the Shrine hospitals... providing 100% free medical care to countless thousands of patients each year is hardly cheap.... another man full of hatred and spite spewing quotes from the Bible --- where's the love man????
* the condemnation of freemasonry was not against freemasonry directly to begin with; it was against secret societies in Italy that the Catholic church felt were plotting against them for control of the people ---- this is about power, money, greed and fear and has nothing to do with religion or saving your soul, folks... --- anyway, the banned membership in every organization; when priests and bishops inquired about Freemasonry, it got lumped into the mix but was not part of the original proclamations.

The good guys, no doubt. Despite the outright lies from many of the other responses the Masons are an old and well respected fraternity. We donate $2 million a day to charities worldwide, and also volunteer for local projects at home. The Masons make good men better. No religion likes us because we respect all religions. I don't think that honesty, integrity, and charity are bad things. Find out for yourself, Most of the other responses just dont get it. But don't take my word for it, 2 be 1 ask 1

No one knows. I have done research on them and I'm pretty confident when I say that they were mainly good guys when founding our country. Masons today? That's another story. I have heard some bad things about them, so it's best to just have an open mind. I wanted to be a mason, but I don't know what it takes.

my grandfather was a mason (lower level I'm sure). When his widow (my grandmother) went senile from a series of strokes, we had to put her into the Masonic home.
We visited many rest home facilities, and I will tell you the Masonic home was head and shoulders better than any of the other facities we visited.
So I don't know if they are 'good', but they are 'good for something' which may be more important.

They are just a fraternity. It really isn't a big deal. Being an atheist, I'm not one. But every other male in my family is as far as I know. Most of the women are Eastern Star. So I've overheard a lot, and looked around a little. Not really all that exciting.

Good guys mostly. All the mystery school portals keep their activities secret, mostly just to teach the new student not to go talking to everyone about what they don't fully understand yet.

Half of my family are Masons. They're just in the fraternity to feel important and do charity work.
